Ok, you have two traces, trace #1 and trace #2. Each trace has a left (L) and right ® side after it is cut. For method one, trace #1 ® connects to trace #2 (L) and is otherwise left open. So, to be able to switch back to normal mode, trace #1 L & R and trace #2 L & R need to be reconnected.

So, you can use an off and on switch with option one. However, to use your drive after reading and writing, you must repair the traces. With method two, you do not need to do this. It is a single trace which is cut, with one side of the switch going to the cut trace and the other to 3.3v.

abrasmateus - yes, you cut the trace. I use a dental pic to scrape the pcb until the trace appears to be gone. Then i use the pic to scrape the coating off the trace on either side to create solder pads. Then i test for continuity between the pads to make sure that they are completely cut. (see my photo above)

hi caster, look at the my modified pic method 1 wire only, have i got right what you mean by trace #1 & #2,

trace #1 left side will be the red part just cut and the same for trace #2 where the right side is the cut part in red.

So when you connect trace #2 left side of the cut to trace #1 right side of the red cut it should work, but when soldering the wires do they need to cover both traces (top and bottom traces) of each trace # because theres to tracks running along side each other.

I've had an attempt so far but hasn't worked must be a bad solder, also is there any uk solders that do this? incase i never get it to work, thanks.

no business conducted in this forum, do that in modchip installer forum whether you are requesting or offering.

Looks like dosflash may need to be hex edited to work with some chipsets.  My onboard one wasnt detected but my via card was.  I still couldnt get it to dump though with the via card.  It saw the drive on the right channel but it had 0s for all the info.

It states in the tutorial provided at the start of this thread that you can only do this in DOS , and not using a Windows version.

Has anyone managed to put their BENQ key on a Samsung or Hitachi drive yet and spoof it?

No. Read post #28.

Yes.  This was done a long time ago, as the firmware was dumped via other methods months ago.

Trying to use Maximus Toolbox 4 with the BenQ, but it's not working.  My drive's ROM version is 64930C, and Maximus Toolbox 4 apparently is only aware of 62430C, so a firmware dump of the newer ROM version isn't recognized as valid.

Manual HEX editing works, but that's a little scary.

Is there anywhere to officially report this?

hi i've got extracted key, and extracted firmware, and firmware toolbox dosnt support my benq drive yet, a few dumb questions

1.) since im replacing with a hitachi drive, i'll need hitachi firmware (Commodore4Eva iXtreme Hitachi-LG v1.2 rev2), i've inserted my key into it but was wondering where the spoof address location is in hex inside the firmware?

think i got the cd key and spoof address right, but which parts needed editing on the bat files for flashing back, or is there a simpler way to flash back to a hitachi drive?

ok here is a windows solution, (I think that will work with all chipsets)

Attention! there is a small bug. If you close the app your PC will freeze probably!!!

howto:
1. boot into windows/vista
2. flip the switch to “off” position
3. plug in SATA cable
4. power on x360 or use the connectivity kit
5. flip the switch to “on” position (no hurry)
6. and now start DosFlash32.exe
7. scroll the posts and you will see "MX(25L2005)(3,3V)"
8. read/write the flash now!!

WOOT WOOT , I used this method with the dosflash 1.2beta and it actually dumped !! Now all i need to find out is how to actually extract the key and put it on a ms25 and spoof it!

Me too!!!
I have my original FW, but I cant figure out where my key is.  FWToolbox gives me a very unlikely key.  A020 and C030 are a couple of places I've heard of it being - but I'm not really sure what I'm looking for!
Perhaps it depends on your drives FW version?  Mine is 62430

Sorry if I post here but I hope someone can reply me. My xbox has got problem with the drive and I want to replace it(it is out of warranty cause I made a succesful x-clamp replacement). If I want to change it with a new Benq drive can I already do it easily(via software)?Or do I have to solder something???I meant I don't have to install any modified firmware just change the old hitachi with the benq. Thanks and sorry if there is already an answer on the forum but I don't get it at all sleep.gif
