acerman I used the windows dos one I think dos32 and once its hooked up via usb my computer did the "install" and said please restart.  once I did it saw the drive as "g" and it was labled xbox360  so I turned on the 360 ran dos32 it asked if i want to resend the info i said no and it gave me like info for items 1-4 then it stopped and asked again if i want to resend the info i turned off the 360 and said yes and then at line 5 it had the info for my 360 i hit 5 and it said the 1d whatever and i turned the 360 back on and it went just like a normal dos16 after that r for read ya ya ya

for the hitiachi it was the same i hooked up the drive and it read it as a 360 drive as "g" and i just ran the hitiachi program as normal and it flashed slow but it flashed and read  ask my buddy modmanmike we found out the hitiachi one together. pop.gif

when you ran the hp tool did you have a floppy in your a drive already formatted to be a start up disk?  if not what did you use as your image for the start up disk?

also what size usb stick do you have?  it has to be no larger then 512mb and not have that gay u3 on it.

hi all,

i have read this whole thread numorous time as i was intending to flash my benq drive after m$ kindly decided to replace my old 360 with a new premium;) Anyway i have cut both traces, exposed the copper on each trace and soldered the wires and switch in place.
I then opened up dosflash... no joy.. tried it in windows and real dos still didnt work couldnt see the drive. I then unsoldered the wires and tried to return the drive back to normal and leave it unflashed but i am now getting error code E65, has anybody got any ideas as to why this is happening? my dvd tray wont eject and im gettin the green light (1) flash once on the RLOD and then it flicks to the red light flashing (4)?? i think i could have gone over the trace and maybe exposed some extra copper?

anybody any ideas on how to solve this problem??

thanks

How come you have cut traces etc, i thought the new way meant you dont need to do any cutting/soldering of traces wires/switches. I think you may have missed some vital info somewhere in this section. Read through the threads im sure its been made simple now with just the use of dosflash.

Yes i just checked, if you have via or nforce sata, there is no need to solder and cut tracks etc, far to risky if it dosent need to be done.

Look here at this .pdf document

Oh no i downloaded that document but i was offline when i was flashing it.. i thought the readme from the link on the pdf was the readme that came with the dosflash program so i read that!

i have taken pictures of my circuit board to see if anybody can spot an obvious reason why its not working... i have cut a little bit outside the trace would that matter? is there anything major that can go wrong with the board from just soldering? i made sure i didnt damage the ribbon cables and i dont think the firmware could of been modified as my computer never saw the drive. I used a connectivity kit but im sure that doesnt make a difference! i just want to get my 360 working again!

I'm still learning about the 360, but I know electronics. Generally, after you cut a trace, current no longer flows making shit not work. Installing the switch gives you control of weather the drive goes into recovery mode or not. So most likely your drive is in recovery mode when you turn on your 360. I suggest using 30g wire to bridge from one side of the break in the trace to the other. Then you should have your 3.3v back and your drive should work. The red lines are where your wires should go.

PS: As long as you use a hot iron and do not hold it on the board for very long you shouldn't burn up any parts on the board, so... SOLDER FAST!!!

thanks for your reply i am going to try that.. will it not matter that i scratched a little over the trace when i was cuttin it? i exposed a bit of the copper from outside the trace?

i am going to try that anyway and thanks for your advice

Personally I see no need to be cutting traces. I did my Benq today and it was easy to mod.
(IMG:http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t178/duckmansweb/Benq.jpg)
All you have to do is get a sharp Xacto knife( pick one up from Staples) and slowly remove the epoxy from pin #1. IT's the pin on the top right with the arrow above it. After you do that ....take a solder iron and heat up pin one. GENTLY pull the leg up as to separate it from the Pad. Once the leg is in the air....take a multimeter and verify there is no continuity with the pad underneath it. Or....you can take a piece of paper and see if it fits between the leg the and pad. THey should now be separated and there is no need to be hacking up a nice board. Once you do that....you can solder on one wire to the leg and the other wire to the point  where it has the solder bubble. Try to follow the trace under the chip and do a continuity check. You have now modded the board without carving it up. JMO.

I also need some assistance. I read the chip using Dosflash 16 in automode. I dumped my bin and saved it as per the instruction. Here is were I'm a little fuzzy since this is the first time I do this and I don't wanna brick the drive. I got this from a tut.
"Run the "Make iXtreme firmware" batch file
This will create a benq-ix.bin file for flashing
Use the excellent Doshflash program by Schtrom to flash your Benq drive with the benq-ix.bin file"

After I do this, I should be done and all I have to do is make sure the drive works?

sad.gif  ok....ran into a wall. I read my drive and dumped the file. I re-read the file to verify the checksum was the same. Everything fine up to that point. I then put it into the "fast folder" as per a tut I fould and clicked on "make itreme firmware".  THe dos window came up and the green "success" sign came on. Everything was fine. I then erased my drive and flashed it with the new benq-ix.bin. I put it in the box and I got " E65" WTF!!!  Soooo..... I took out the drive again to try to read/erase the bin with DOS 16 , which is what I"m using. I figure I'll just go back to the original bin and start over. Now it's telling me "unknown flash" grr.gif  and after trying to do it like twice....the screen then doesn't recognize the drive so I have to reboot the xbox and flip the switch again ,so the Dosflash sees it again. My problem now is I can't get back into the chip for the time being.
Any ideas or clues as to how to solve this. ANy help would be gladly appreciated. TIA!!!! uhh.gif

Nevermind. Looks like it was a bad flash. Grrrrrr......After letting it sit for a while cause I had to get back to work..... I tried again this a'noon and I was able to erase and re-write. I even noticed the checksum at the end was different after the re-write. Dropped in a Spiderman game and WALA!!
Thank you to the site for all the info that is here. Takes a while, but searching you find bits and clues that help.
Now back to work.... sleeping.gif  wink.gif

Did you verify it in Toolbox right after you read it?
