Dump and Flash the BenQ VAD6038 drive
« Reply #270 on: October 30, 2007, 06:27:00 PM »

Please don't flame me guys but for sure confirmation could I still dump & flash the BenQ using an ICH5 via cut & trace method which I have no problem doing? I have a friend that has been calling and asking me was it possible yet and now would be a good time to let him know.

Thanks for any info

one thing you might want to try.....  I got a sata to usb converter (you remember xecuter came out with one for $60)  well I got it for my pata hard drive's and sata drives well I was borded so I hooked up my benq drive to it and tried to flash it from my windows dos promt (not true dos) and it read it and worked like a charmso if you can't flash it with true dos try it in windows with  a sata to usb converter..... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/muhaha.gif) also it works with hitatchi drives also.

so your saying the xecuter usb converter works ???????

yes, you can still use the cut trace method and then flash it on an ICH5 chipset.

If the drive isn;t touched at all, i would buy a cheap PCI sata card, it makes things A LOT easier smile.gif

Thanks cypher21 that's just what I did. You can't go wrong with a 6421A SATA Card from eBay for less than $20.00. Come to find out, the store they have on eBay is about 15-20 mins away from me but doesn't allow pickups so I have to mail the payment

But oh well, I can't wait!

Success story here:

Asus M2A-VM HDMI Mobo with Via 6421 PCI card Bios leaving Sata enabled but unplugging eveything but the Via card and 360

I used the newest batch files and it was a 5 second breeze.

Iprep to get my bc00 address...which was in the 1st of the 2 address boxes.

Thanx all! biggrin.gif

fits79 I never tried a sammy but I will this week and let you know but yes I did do a hitiachi 47 with it and I did a benq with it. I will have to see my chip set I can't remember what I have off hand.

and the xecuter sata to usb should also work I did not use it but all the sata to usb are straight connects so there is no files or software with the item so in theory the team xecuter sata to usb item should work. since all the 360 blasters work off the same theory and are just a very cooler item then the simple blue key.

I will do more testing but the item I know that works for the hitiachi and benq is the sata adapter I listed.

and for out4it  who said 3 hours was not a real test?  I have been using it for what 10 days now?  with no ban in site.  and will also use it after this post longest time on live so far was 7 hours.  I have killed more people then systems you think you modded so before you say sh*@ about people with out even knowing anything about them, stop.. sit back.... call your mom.... and show a little respect.  I posted that before they corrected the post so sorry now go to bed I think I hear your mom calling.

More posts later........ pop.gif

Anyone get it working on an intel ICH8 with the benq VAD6038? All I ever get is a visible VAD6038 drive but I cannot read or write at all. I am booting to a USB drive I have tried all of the off on methods with no luck. I usually get bad flash chip message. or it just searches and never finds anything.

Hope I see some good results soon.

read the readme!
only nforce and via chipsets work without soldering.

i have an ich8 with a via pci card and it works like a charm!

Which is the differnce between "BenQ iXtremev1.1_rev2" & "BenQ Xtreme_non_stealth"?
The only differnce i think is that the nonstealth versions it can play both stealth & non stealth backup games correct?
But which is the best firmware to put at benq drives?

So is there to be a revision to the dosflash program with more added support in the near future? last time I was looking into this I gave up on a firmware then 2 days later it shows. My luck I buy the card and the next day there will be an update of DosFlash adding intel chipsets.

depends on what you want. if you want to boot unstealth games, then go for the xtreme_non_stealth. If you want tot be safe on xblive use ixtreme!

no updates on that part yet, it seemes that it was pretty hard to get the nforce and via chipsets do what they can now with dosflash,  so my guess is that you won't see an update soon (and a via pci card is pretty cheap!)
