Hi.

I have a 360 that came with a samsung ms28 hardware 007 (with the black eproxy); me and a buddy of mine couldn't get a hold of  a VIA card to make the job easier (before, now we have it), so we decided to go for the VCC trick with the switch adapted to that once resistor, we were successfull in 2 drives before, but hardware version was 005.

Now this drive is bricked, this technician couldn't fix the board so it at least work again.

My plan is to dump the firmware that is located in the SST chip by removing it and soldering it to another drive of same to have access to the chip.

Will it matter if this sst chip was from a HW revision: 007, and I put it to an earlier HW revision board HW:005???

The Samsung boards are still the same, only the firmware on the chip is different between the ms25 and ms28 drives. You can swap the chip, but if the drive is bricked it may not work on another board either. In that case you'll need to use an external programmer to dump the SST chip to get the key, and then reflash it with the external programmer as well.

I wasn't able to dump the original firmware or I have already complete my task.

The SST chip should have the original firmware on it, the idea is to recover so I can take the key and flash it to another drive and have the 360 working.

An external programer sound great, that way I don't have to risk bricking another drive if something goes wrong with soldering or the chip being damaged.

What is the programer you recomend or someone can recomend for these SST Samsung Drive chips and let's take it farther.....hitachi 0079FK SST eeprom chip?

Thx for the help.

The Willem programmer works fine and depending on what version of it you get already has the PLCC32 socket on it for the Samsung SST chips. You need to get a TSOP32 to DIP32 adapter to be able to dump/flash the Hitachi FW chips externally.

Willem Programmer - 27C256 & Enhanced Willem EPROM Programmer BIOS FWH MCS

Adapter for Hitachi FW chip - Mini DIP32 to TSOP32
