A Hitachi v79 flashing solution from Infectus - Flash079
Posted by Iriez | August 5 15:46 EST | News Category: Xbox360

Here are some details of Flash079, by the guys who made Infectus in collaboration with Laemmchen.
(IMG:http://dwl.xbox-scene.com/iriez/079KEYINFECTUS.jpg)The Flash079 is a neat device that lets you read and flash the firmware of your Hitachi 0079FK drive (with the latest Maximus Toolbox).

What you're getting with this:
- direct boot into ModeB
- Flashing and reading of the firmware of your drive
- Stealth when not active (leave it soldered in and just solder a jumper)
- Based on Xilinx CPLD for stable and reliable patching
- Only available solution for Europe
- Low-cost (10€ retail price)

Pro:
- Allows you to flash a 79FK drive as if it were an older drive
- Goes straight to ModeB (no Slax needed anymore)
- Works as an Unbricker for i.e. 59 (like Chillimod)

Con:
- Flashing works for only one drive (you can only use one per drive) - Unbricking works for "unlimited" drives

What makes this chip exclusive to one drive, can't you just de-solder it and use it on another drive? Is there something about the process that I don't understand, or is this a limitation set by the manufacturer in order to sell more chips?

So basically its a cheaper maximus passkey that needs more wires...

Its good to have choices i guess, but i hope someone manages to get SLAX to work with the 79K eventually.

I wanna hack my drive!! My 360 is outa warranty anywayz tongue.gif

Yeah,
same thing like maximus passkey but 3 time less price...

Example?
gamefreax sell
http://www.gamefreax.com/cgi-bin/shop/lsho...suche--79%20key

cost of infectus 079 key
http://www.hardstore.com/default.asp?cmd=g...Type=-1&l=2

2 more wires that take 2 min more for installation, and save 75% of cost. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Well i your worried about cost, make your own.

Check out the Xecuter XHM source released a while ago. Its most likely what the maximus passkey is based on (given its the same chip, crystal, and connections)

Oh and a CPLD is much better at patching on the fly, and a MCU. See the problems with the Xecuter XHM.

this is off Infectus website:

- X360 NAND FLASHER, allow to read and write nand flash of X360.

- Every BIOS is signed for every consoles, so is not possible to use a BIOS from a different X360 in another.

- Right now is possible to backup the firmware and restore it in the same console, good for BIOS backup, to update and downgrade the firmware of the console

-X360 NAND FLASHER allow the developer to study and analyze the X360 BIOS in a easy way

The NAND flasher and the Infectus 79 passkey are two different things.

dose anyone know why we can't use the Infectus passkey from one drive to another drive?

okay so you can only flash 1 drive using this? then if you want to flash another 79 then you have to buy another  one?

does it save information on the thing that cant be erased or does it only work if it stays on the drive? im still confused.

to clarify: if you don't leave it soldered in, it won't be possible to update your drive anymore...

I have an Infectus modchip lying around. I read something about a free update in the software from Infectus that would give me the Flash079 functionality.  Any news on that part ?
