A Hitachi v79 flashing solution from Infectus - Flash079

"only available solution for Europe" means that European users can't get their hands on the Passkey79 and therefor can only choose Flash079
But there is no problem for ordering from USA or whatever country you're in (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

and yes, it will enable you to flash your 79FK/FL

If you fit the Infectus Flash79 chip, do you just follow the guides for flashing a V78 - or is there a specific tutorial for using Firmware Toolbox 4.0?
I assume starting the drive with the jumper in 1 position starts in mode B, and the other starts the drive normally?

Any place to buy this chip thats NOT overseas from the USA?  I'd like to get it in my lifetime, and not pay $50ish in shipping charges for a $15 chip....

It doesnt look like it.  I ordered one the other day to the UK to help my friend.  It cost me almost treble the price of the chip for the shipping!  Hopefully it will sort him out though!

I still need to find out if flashing a V79 is the same procedure as the tutorial on here for a V78 - apart from the chip needs to be added?

I've always found Mrmodchips from the UK to have very reasonable shipping.

BUYER BEWARE:  Infectus 079 Key NOT 100% COMPATIBLE.  Many purchasers are able to achieve Mode-B with proper installs, and physically cannot perform read/flash.  I'm one of them, and have had no reply to my Tech Support forum requests nor emails.  It does work for some, just be aware that many people who know what they're doing cannot get this chip to work, even after getting good results with 079 Keys on other V79 drives.

Agreed !!!

Me and the above member have been battling it out with Infectus on there forums for a straight answer to NO avail. We are both having the same issues.

The chip seems to work when it wants. Its really random. I have flashed 1 79Fl and 3 79FK drives with it. I have 2 Infectus chips here now and they will NOT flash a 79FL drive I have in my possesion.

The only conclusion I can think of is that the ( KEY ) location is more random / widespread than they tested for. Hence why it will do one but not enother Drive of the same revision.

When in mode B and seen in windows all it says In Maximus toolbox is " Cannot read from Drive "

I know maximus himself will not address this issue as the chip is kind of a clone of his passkey.

Just a warning to all. If you want somthing to work buy from the maker not someone trying to make a quick buck.

I ordered 10 of these chips last week. If Iknew the problems I would have waited. Costs a lot in shipping + after the order was complete I got an email telling me to pay 15 euros more for t2 custom form or they wont ship out.

Still cheaper then any other option but way more then I expected to pay. sad.gif

I'd keep your fingers crossed that they actually work - cause mine doesnt!!!

ash1471 - If the key was in random places, wouldnt the Maximus passkey have the same problem?  Surely that would be a fix required for FWToolbox?

Yeah but maximus made the passkey and firmware toolbox. So I would assume he has looked into all key areas.

Maximus passkey arrived this morning. Soldered it in and worked straight away with the 79FL drive I have been stuggling with. The infectus passkey in my opinion is crap and only works with certain 79 drives.

If your going to buy a passkey get the MAXIMUS one

Where did you get yours from? I want to get one pretty bad.
