Maximus 79 Pass Key Tutorial Please.
« on: July 25, 2007, 06:59:00 PM »

I read the FLAT CABLE INSTALLATION TUTORIAL on Maximus' website, but I'm still not sure how to solder the connector onto the board. Does anyone have a more detailed explaination on how to do this using the desoldering braid?

The best way is to do is. place the connector where is goes and just heat up each leg with your soldering pincil. or just add a tiny drop of solder to each leg

But what if some solder gets stuck on two of the legs? In the tutorial pics, it says to use the desoldering braid. Does this take away most of the solder and still leave just enough to connect the legs?

don't follow the maximum tutorial .. they basically drop a huge amount of solder over all of the pins and then use the desoldering braid to remove the short circuits ..

instead of doing that, just tin the pins of the connector, put flux on the connections on the flash chip solder spots and do the soldering ..

Do you have some pictures of what exactly you have to do? How do you the tiny amount of solder on the pins? What does the flux do on the connections?

whenever i do any kind of SMD soldering, i put solder all over the pads, and if i have any bridges or anything use desolder braid. so each pad will have a little bump of solder on it. from there just line up the flat cable over it, and push down on each leg with the soldering pencil until it melts teh solder underneath. just do each leg, and its very easy to not have any shorts or bridges that way

Okay, that sounds pretty easy.

Hi, I also have a problem/question with the flat cable installation version of this chip.

First, please look at the installation diagram here: LINK

Anyway, on this diagram, I accidentally removed the copper (or whatever that bronze stuff is) portion on the 3rd from the right point/line (this is the 14th from the left).

My question is, are the points indicated on the diagram, marked A D E F G H I, the only points that the flat cable is going to be really using or are all 16 points needed?

If only the ones marked on the diagram, then I can get away with not soldering/leaving as is, correct?

Please Help

THANKS
