Replacement Drive Tutorial Clarification.
« on: June 13, 2007, 04:44:00 PM »

Hi all,

My Samsung MS28 died on my box and i bought a new MS28 to replce it. I though i would just be able to swap the drives but apparently not.

I have a copy of the original MS28 firware from the bricked drive but no Key, not sure if this can be obtained from the original  firmware orig.bin

I have read the tutorial on replacing the MS28, but i am a bit confused. I'm assuming that i need to spoof the drive but am unsure which firmware to use. Do i use the firware from my original bricked drive or do i extract the firmware from the new drive.

Summary

1) I am right in assuming i will need to spoof the drive ?

2) Do i use original firmware from bricked drive or extract firmware from new drive and use that.

3) If i do not know the key from the original drive, can it be extracted from the original drive firmware bin file ?

Many thanks,
Rich.

no need to spoof it is the same model
in short: just put the orig.bin of your first drive in the Ixtreme directory and choose make fw,
then to flash use mtkflash w /m /sata name.bin.

more info: just use the update procedure (steps 9 to 21) but use the orig.bin of your first drive (the one that match with your mothereboard)

Hi ok i understand the steps now to replace my drive. Can i just double check something about flashing.

I'm used to using the my the extreme usb boot method of flashing which uses the samread/samhack commands, which normally needs you to put your serial number in before flashing.

i.e. samhack 1234567 12345 which then calls mtkflash command.

If i manually run the mtkflash w /m /sata name.bin command with my newly created iextreme 1.2 bin file do i need to specify the serial number somehow ?

sorry to be a pain, i'm just a bit nervous of knacking this new drive.

so basically i have my new ms28 replacement drive,  i download ixtreme 1.2 and extract it to my hard disk. I then copy my original bin file into the same folder.

I run the Ixtreme make firware file which should show show success the drive key and drive model.

It then generates the ix12.bin file, which i rename to hacked.bin

I then copy the hacked bin to my usb boot disk, boot form the usb and then use the following command

mtkflash w /m /sata hacked.bin

when the menu appears to select option for extreme, i power down the box for 10 secs, power it up again and then it should tell me that all 4 banks flashed successfully.

reboot xbox and the job is done.

so i just flashed my new drive with the extreme firmware, all banks 100% successful, i had the video unplugged and now my new bloody drive has got the same E65 error, please can someone please explain what the hell just happened.
