Right so if i flash the core will still be ms28 and therefore wont read with my chipset. do u know if theres going to be a ixtreme firmware with ms25 core?

Indeed, and I doubt it as C4E based his f/w on MS28 from the start.

hypothetically are the fixes in 1.2 just for extra safty for NOT booting ropy backups?

ie if i KNOW my backups from my originals are all fine, will i be ok sticking with 1.0 for a while or do i need to upgrade regardless?

cheers
M.

Extra safety yeah, and afaik iExtreme1.0 fixed drive timing issues so if you know your copy is accurate and you really can't be bothered to update then I'd say there's little risk in sticking with 1.0

iExtreme is MS28 core and going from MS25 -> MS28 should never cause an error as upgrades in f/w revision are allowed.

just so im clear in my mind about this & i hope im not being thick smile.gif

earlier in the thread it mentioned if you get error66 running a ms25 as a ms28 it means the drive is I.D. locked to the 360 somehow.

but what your saying is ive fecked up in my flash somehow, im fully ready to believe this but dont see where i went wrong

basically i did this

1) used the tool that comes with the firmware to inject my key & selected N at the prompt to be ms28

2) then i flashed the new firmware via mtkflash from my via chipset pc (thats worked fine for this till now)

3) turned on the 360 and got error66

4) flashed back to 1.2 using the Y option to be ms25 & im fine

also i dont want to sound pushy but no-one answered my original question, am i at risk of a ban now?

cheers

I must be wrong then.

If you've spoofed to be MS25 yet it acts as an MS28 (i.e firmguard) then my assumption would be that you're at an increased risk.

I highly doubt MS is gonna care what drives we have in the system. Like "Oh look, we can't send code to this HLG drive anymore, they must've changed to a TS".  rolleyes.gif  You know how tedious that would be for them to check everyone's drives? They would have to ban 1 by 1. Not to mention, they've made drive changes themselves. Granted not from a hitachi to a samsung or vice-versa, but still....they couldn't even detect the fw, so they attacked the types of backups. You guys are giving MS too much credit...The people who were banned, were playing half assed 'scene' releases. Now, C4E has made his fw so everything has to be done properly this time around, which is why half of you are throwing out your "backups" now  tongue.gif

Who says that Microsoft can't detect flashed firmware?  It would be foolish for Microsoft to tip their hand too early.  Maybe this first round of bannings was just a test run to see how the community would react to it?  Maybe they only wanted to ban the "obvious" bad guys first to test their code and have something in store for all of us firmware flashers in the near future?

Everything we "know" is really just "we think".

Fair enough. I never bothered with LIVE for the origional Xbox, so what were their methods with that system? From what i heard, they detected modification & banned within 24hrs. Now, if that's the case, why would they ban in waves...wait...and do it again? If they could catch you now with iX 1.0-1.2, they would do it. IMO people aren't being banned now cause C4E made a great fw & now stupid people won't make stupid mistakes.  happy.gif

thing else seems OK but tbh I'd always recommend my method of simply opening iExtreme with FW toolbox 3.0, pasting your drive key in to it and uploading the saved file to your drive via MTKFLASH.

Thanks a Ton for your answers ... but you could please Elaborate on this? I'm stunned by your ending comments. If there is a better/easier way to do this - I would LOVE to know about it!

Thanks in advance!

Yeah, with the original Xbox it was almost instant.  If you left a modchip on and accidently signed into live you'd be banned shortly there after.  That's why I don't think this is done in waves, it may seem like waves when they find new ways to check and ban.

360: "Hello, Mr. Drive! What kind of drive are you?

MS25: "Hello, 360! I'm a MS25!". (note the drive is being polled...this is not coming from the NAND)

360: "Okay, MS25. I show that you match what is in my NAND and you are the correct drive for this unit. I can accept you, or I can even accept a MS28 if Microsoft decides to upgrade you! But between you and me, I like MS25s better. Hey, since you are a MS25 like you just reported to me, do you mind if I see your firmware?"

MS25: "F U. Nobody can see my firmware."

360: "That is certainly odd behavior for an MS25!!"

I could totally program in that language...I'd be all like "Play that shiznit and don't get me banned mofo!" And it would be all like "fine bamma but stop yelling bizatch!" Word.

Better watch out C4E, I'm onto your coding genius!

heh heh.. not if you got someone at M$ that can take you out of the ban list... heh heh..

AFAIK, the original XBOX could be unbanned by changing its identity.....but you needed to get a new, valid ID from somewhere.

Of course...this is still lightyears away for the 360!

Cheers

Yeah you had to get a virgin EEPROM and flash it over yours.  But even then there was a marriage theory between that and your harddrive and it got a little complicated.

I just bought a new core today, has an MS25. Flashed it with ixtreme 1.2 spoofed. Works great. I'm kinda thinking I should have taken the MS28 out of my other console, but oh well. I'm on Live. Played a few games. Yipee.

I don't really see what difference it would have made?

hello...
i really don't know where to ask this question.
so i try it here:

My situation:
I'm offline since one day before the Spring Update.
So I don't have the spring update on my box.

I have a Sammy ms25, my recent FW is Xtreme 3.x

I'm not too sure if all my backups I played are stealthed,
because in the beginning a friend of mine did that, and I
don't know how much effort he put in that.

Question:
If I now flash to iXtreme 1.2, am I save then?
Or did MS save information about not right stealthed games even before Spring Update?

And like, every game that boots with 1.2 is stealthes properly,
every game that doesn't boot is not properly stealthed, right?

thx for help.
