Vcc Method On Ms28 Clarification Please.
« on: May 29, 2007, 11:33:00 AM »

Hi guys, just got a box with an ms28 inside and after reading some tutorials i have a couple of questions about the VCC trick.

When you have removed the resistors and are using wires instead of an actual switch, is it right that connected = on when the wires are apart = off?

Also i have read a few conflicting reports regarding teh need for the VIA chipset, in textbooks flashing for dummies, it states that by performing this method you essentially turn it into an ms25 and can be flashed with any sata that can flash an ms25.

I flashed my ms25 using my onboard sata, so if this is the case then im good to go.  If it isnt then i dont wanna desolder the resistor just yet.

From personal experience I would recommend the bad flash method

just buy the sata chipset via6421L or via6421A and do the flash.  The VCC trick is risky if you are not good at soldering.  you could remove the other resistors by accident.

the sata PCI card is only like $10-14 and is a good investment, you could always use it to hook up more IDE and sata drives.

Go buy the card much easier.  I went to mwave.com and got it for about $20 including shipping.
