on the via there are 3 ports - 1 out of the back of pc, 1 on the side of the card and one at the front of the card. It might be that you need to use the primary port on the card which is the one at the front i had the same problem switched it to the primary port and job done!!

Use Xtreme Boot Maker & the badflash method (also known as the 10 second trick).

Did you use the modified version of mtkflash for the via6421 controller, mtk183c_VIA?

I also recommend doing the manual method.  I find that the other methods end up being more complicated and lot more reading when really if you break it down, the manual method is quite straight forward and simple.  After reading about a dozen different tutorials and numbers threads/posts I followed this and had no problems:

Personally I like to always have control of what is happening, just my opinion.

ok
now using extreme botmaker
still no luck though as still saying no drive detected when run mtkflash etc??

its as if my sata card doesnt boot up until windows does??
just wont recognize that theres a sata drive plugged in??
ive tried using my via card and a friends and get same thing each time
do you think could be my mobo? and if so anyone else had issues using an asrock p4i65g??
anyone recommend a failry cheap mobo replacement for a socket 478 3ghz pentium?

Also whilst im here extreme bootmaker (v0.5.3  RC2) doesnt seem to wanna use 5.3, only works on 5.2?

can you verify that the card works at all?  can you hook up a hdd to it and see if windows see the hdd?  obviously just a spare, empty hdd, just to test the card.

d0ct0r46 - there are a lot of combinations of cards using the 6421 chipset - personally have a card that has 1 esata and 1 internal and another card that has 2 internal and no external

I plug mine into the port on the card furthest from the back of the case. I also power on my 360 before powering on the PC. Sometimes I have to unhook my ATA devices.

When creating the bootdisk you must select "Use custom MTKFlash", find the VIA-card in the list & then click on "Dectect ID - I/O". You must also select the two MS28-related options. Boot your PC with the 360 hooked up & write "samread 1234567 12345" at the promt, your VIA-card should show up as XTREME. Turn off your 360 & choose your VIA-card (XTREME), then wait 10 seconds & turn it on again - it will now read the firmware. Make a backup of the original firmware (orig.bin). Powercycle & repeat the procedure with the samhack command to flash the drive.
