i have a question,i need hitachi so cant use this,but whats the thing about make your drive show as a hitachi 78 all about?
that part lost me.

by the way how come folks on here have there gamercards on show and talk about flashing there drives,istn that a bit stupid as i know MS people read these forums

yes, this work was not done as waste...but we will know for sure possibly this week when problems surface from the update unless MS designs it as time-delay or just to collect information on who plays back-ups...

I currently have 5.2A firmware, i just cant wait to see this new update so maybe im flashing it today.
I have a lot o backups that are burned in a very poo media: Ridata Printable... and they sometimes doesnt work well. Do you think that if i flash to 5.3B or 5.3D will help me with my cheap media or will just make the drive quieter? Hope MS doesnt ban anyone from live...

damn you must throw all of them to your garbage poor media kills your lens thats for sure.
its your media not the console or the firmware that your discs not play try tdk or verbatim

xtreme 5.3 works fine with backups and originals till now for me.

Very cool, I cant wait for the Hitachi firmware to be updated. I am also a bit scared to have my 360 on live before I hear what this update M$ plans to release does!

I was having the same problems with this release. The way i found to get around it was to use a hex editor to copy the security sectors from the original firmware, and then just manually paste them into the xtrem53b.bin file.... and then use that edited .bin file to flash the dvd drive! Voila!

I also have a question relating to this release: If I was force to manually inject the security sectors into the .bin file, will my drive remain shown as an Ms28 (the drive i have) or will it be detected as the HT79...

other than that, great release guys! thanks for having it here early!!!

depends which bin file you injected into, the fw folder has many bin files.

i'm having problems with XBM 5.3 working under vista ultimate and the new xtreme5.3. Has anyone else had this problem? i have updated the xml as mentioned fromo the x-projects forums.

also is the mtkflash.exe the same? i have file size of 52,776 bytes
