This is a great thing that is for sure. But personaly, I would worry more about the next fall update since that is when Halo 3 comes out. Any that were part of the scene I am sure remember the Halo 2 release. What fun that was, lol... I have a non flashed Hitachi so no biggy here. But this will for sure be interesting to watch. I wish you all the best.

You know, I swear that ever since i put 5.3 on my drive, that all my maps on call of duty 3 are loading faster. However, i reverted back to 5.2 and tested times, and its the same amount. But i STILL swear that before i put it on, things were taking much longer to load.

Its confused the hell outta me

But as long as i THINK im happy, then im happy

PC_Arcade: Glad to hear it has helped in successful boot ratio. I would also like to hear others tests/results with disc's that they had previously unbootable with the new 5.3

there was a news report awhile back saying the 5.3 firmware was goin to have region free playing of dvd movies

That's good to here!! But you probably had a bad flash the first time you did it, and when you update to the new firmware you got it right and fixed it.

i have a hitachi mate and i just flashed my drive back to the original box state with the backup flash think thats the safest way to go for hitachi for now i no u wont be able to play your backed up games on original firmware but better to be safe than sorry hey

If so i had problem not accepting 5.3 firmware .rar so i edit '5xDef.xml' in Xtreme Boot Maker installed folder to add :

      <lead>51</lead>
   </firmware>
This let you load new 5.3 firmware BUT I HAVE NOT TESTED A FLASH TO MY DRIVE !! THIS IS AT YOUR OWN RISK !!!

But it should work fine

They all have to do load speed and noise level. The read me will usually explain.

Why are the hitachi users all in a flap ?
No need to panic , see what happens when M/S release the dash update first.
As of now its only a tip off that Backups will be banned.

It might be that we dont need a firmware upgrade !

Stay calm , wait for the update tomorrow and if anyone reports a ban just wait for a upgrade in firmware.
If it means you cant go on live for a week or two , so what !!

The update will not report a hacked DVD rom drive , it will only report a backed up game so just use your original games until we know whats happening.

Just updated, all seemed to go fine. I assume that the ring of light flashing around in a circle after the flash (before restarting, though i tested and everything loads fine) means that the drive has been flashed? Also any other quick way of checking that the update was successful? Just want to be extra careful with the update tomorrow.

opened it in the common tools to verify version and key
