Hitachi drive here, so... correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I understand, Hitachi users will just have to wait until they get an updated version.  This should be released in the next few weeks, unless it turns out that this update can, in fact, detect backups.  If that happens, then an emergency update for Hitachi drive owners will be released within the week, right?

Ahh okay - then I will just use the MS25 Version - as I did before with the 5.2D. Well I am off to flashing my 360 - hopefully everything will go as smooth as with previous flashes/updates.

All depends on if anyone actually does the update.  Comm is apparently working on it but the Hitachi FW mods have been much slower than the Samsungs.

I have an hitachi drive and this is exactly what im scared of. I can see us waiting weeks and weeks until it turns into months for anything to be done about it.

It appears samsung snags all the updates now.

Not good.

Do you mean Xtreme Boot Maker v5.3 for Vista ?

If so i had problem not accepting 5.3 firmware .rar so i edit '5xDef.xml' in Xtreme Boot Maker installed folder to add :

   <firmware   md5="90fa021379cd5f6698741a4797cd89bf">
      <name>Xtreme 5.3</name>
      <path>fw</path>
      <opti>4</opti>
      <lead>51</lead>
   </firmware>

This let you load new 5.3 firmware BUT I HAVE NOT TESTED A FLASH TO MY DRIVE !! THIS IS AT YOUR OWN RISK !!!

But it should work fine (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Ok. Done. Updated to 5.3D without any problems. Everything is still running smoothly.

I am gonna unplug my 360 from the net though - I am a bit scared of what will start to happen this monday and the following days  ph34r.gif

Ive just flashed mine and it all works like a charm, however I do think that the drive makes a louder noise than before perhaps its just me. I flashed with x53a and my previous flash was x52a which definately seemed quiter to me has anyone else found this with the x53a?? Im thinking I may reflash to x53d to quieten it down.

Also would anyone have a timeframe for the hitachi?? As I have 2 360s one samsung one hitachi my daughter and I play a lot of co-op system link together but have to be on live to use the headsets we shall be missing our fun for few weeks me thinks.

I just want to remind everyone that we don't even know if this new update will contain "backup detection" or not.  Even if it does, we might still be fine with Xtreme 2.3 (Hitachi) or 5.2 (Samsung).

I'm still going to wait and see what others report, but this 5.3 update is mostly just a safeguard.

Also, if you're using original discs, you should be fine in the first place.  If a form of backup detection is indeed included in the update, it will only be able to detect something when you are running a backup.

Edit: from 360mods.net:

"Don't freak out just yet. Nobody knows if this update is going to have this "backup detection" or not. If it does, then most likely any current Samsung drives running firmware version 5.2 or lower AND all Hitachi firmwares will most likely result in a dirty disc error when playing backups. The v5.3 firmware is supposed to fix this *POSSIBLE* problem."

Dame I’m so glad I stayed up tonight and saw the news on xbox-scene.com.   Well I down load the new 5.3 Xtreme firmware but I’m not plugging my network cable back in my Xbox 360. Not till I here good thing about all this stuff just too much at stake.  Not to say I don't have faith in commodore4eva but I like to be safe.  I’m sure they got it right but why take a chance.  To Hitachi owners this is actually good for you.  I be patient and see what happen to the Samsung owners first, which this is the drive I have.   uhh.gif

Just flashed (5.3c from 5.2c) and not only does the firmware still work, my drive is now able to read 100% a backup of Guitar Hero II that it was previously only able to boot 1 in 4.

Fantastic work as ever C4E beerchug.gif
