you're correct, it does have to be on DL

*Edit
But then again, from the read me. For those currently on 5.x
(V5.0)   Single Layer DVD disc support(+/-R) for both Xbox1 and 360
(V5.0)   Xbox1 file ISO support - burn just game files to disk in ISO format
(V5.0)   Xbox1 file ISO capacity increase to utilise full disk space for single layer
(v5.0)   360 file ISO support (Work in progress. New QWIX tool to come)
(V5.0)   Supports older style XBox1 disk format (just burn game.iso)
(v5.0)   Enable0800 disk now supported on single layer disk

I'm definately running a 4.x version, so the single layer should not work for me. Just need to make sure I can burn it with Imgbrun (see previous repsonse for warnings I am getting).

I think with the Badflash method, you don't need to use the Enable 800

I used the badflash method to originally flash it, but I remember having so many problems getting it to read and write the flash and since it was back in November, I don't recall exactly how I got past it. Since the current TS firmware is based on the MS28 I figured it would have the same issues - so even if enable 800 is not required, if I can do that as opposed to the bad flash it would make my life so much easier.

Important Question:

Do you need a backup of the original firmware to upgrade from 4.x to 5.3?

I have only seen an "xtreme to higher-version-xtreme" upgrade on HITACHI, and it required reflashing the original fw first. (you couldn't just overwrite the old xtreme with the new)

Is sammy the same way? Am I screwed?

This sammy is flashed with 4.x and I do not have its original fw. Can I still do the upgrade?

Do I just get it in 800 and then flash over the current fw?

so i have a few questions:

1. can i just do the badflash method like i did when i flashed from original ms28 to 5.2?

2. does  xtreme boot maker work with this release? (i will probably try this if no one replys, then report back)

Ah yes that's the method I use (rebooting the XBox to get it to detect). Thanks mate.

Glad to hear it's working!

Some questions if you don't mind:

1) What firmware were you running previously?
2) Is your dive an original MS25 or MS25?
3) How did you upgrade to the latest firmware (i.e. badflash, enable800, other?)

I am still trying to find out how to burn the enable800 and if that would work on my MS28 (original firmware) and 4.x xtreme firmware (based on MS28).

I already ran the utility to create the new firmware (xtreme A based) with my orig.bin - so all that is set. I just need to do the actual flashing which I am planning on doing tomorrow - but just want to make sure I have everything I need and know what to do before going forward with it. I had a hell of a time getting the original MS28 to flash and it was so long ago, I don't recall what the exact problem or resolution was - so I am hoping I can just use the enable800 and flash without having to go through the bad recover method as that took me 2 to 3 days to get past my problem.

I know upgrading from one xtreme to a higher version on HITACHI, requires reflashing the original fw first. (you can't just overwrite the current one)

I would like to know the answers to as I am in pretty much the same boat as you. I do have my original bin, but I had a ton of problems flashing the original MS28 (and I don't recall how I got past them). I know I am running a 4.x version, but not sure which one, and I never upgraded due to the problems I had originally flashing it as well as I didn't think I would benefit from the new features. I am hoping I can just use the enable800 and not have to go through the bad flash method and upgrade it. I did create a 53A bin using my original bin, I just need to make sure I know what I need to do to get the upgrade to work. I'll let you know if I find out anything, and if you do, please let me know!

There is no need for the original firmware. The hacked firmware patches itself around the dvd key, so it doesn't matter if you have the original or not.

For those of you asking if this works with xtreme boot maker....yes it does.

when you open up the firmware file (5.3) it will say somthin like

"you have selected an unknown firmware would you like to update your definitions"

click no!

Then another pop up will caution you just click ok and continue on like normal.

Thats it, I got 5.3c already flashed onto my ms28 works great!

Ok so it's been a while since 5.1

But mtkflash w /sata fw53a.bin

It then asks for Master/Slave, I choose master/

It says:

Flash Type : "SST(SSt39SF020)"
Updating....Finished! DataSum EB9D, OPCSum  0

but it only flashed one bank, shouldn't it flash 3?

Any thing in the works for the BenQ drives ever ? Havn't heard much about those or are they just unhackabale? If they are one would think that all ms has to do is release benq drives in all systems. Then the scene would really be screwed. Can anyone comment on this?

Check your bin size first to make sure it's the right size.  Don't work to well when you try and flash a bin file the wrong size (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)  Fixed it, 5.3 working fine now.

For those that wonder how we know if we have the latest FW successfully flashed.

Flash back to stock, then to new hacked firmware.  If it then plays backups, you definitely know it's the latest fW.

I am currenlty running 5.2D - with 5.2D I used the 52d-ms25.bin file and flashed it.

When I open up that firmware though it says something like "reports as spoofed MS25 balblabla" -

so if I wanted it to report as a Hitachi Drive I would use the 53d-ht79.bin - am I correct?!

I think that if you're using a Samsung drive, you wouldn't want to have it report as a Hitachi drive unless you have a Hitachi board.

edit: unless you have a Hitachi drive, and you're trying to get it to report as a Samsung drive..
