« on: April 29, 2007, 04:11:00 AM »

hi, i was flashing a friends 360(hitachi 47dj) using the slax method everything was going fine, but its has got stuck flashing 5/9 sector XXXXXXXXXX (challenge response) but it eventually completed but
then said that the flash had failed (see pic)
i have tried severel retries but no joy, shall i just reset the pc and 360 and restore.bat? , or shall i run anything i need to now while its still on without rebooting?

Normally with these types of FLASH failures, you can recover if the MODE B tweak is working.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Recover Option #1:

1: Open the tray manually all the way
2: Hold the tray to stop it from closing
3: While at the same time powering up the drive,
4: Then boot up into Windows without using the Slax CD
5: And your drive should be back in Mode B.
6: Continue your flashing by reruning the FLASH23 file.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Recover Option #2:

If the above Option #1 step fails....
The hardware-induced Mode B MAY still be working...
Try it by using a "connect-kit" or the "cross-wire"...
But using "cross-wire", please please use a 1K resistor!!!!
Once back in Windows, and your drive is there, just rerun the FLASH23.BAT file
And it will complete the flashing steps that are needed.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If both the above steps fail, you only have three options left, but they will all cost you time and money.

#1: Trying installing the "chilliflash" product, which may or may not help.
#2: Removing the flash chip and redoing it using your backup with an external programmer.
#3: Using your saved "drive-key" which should be in the backup directory and putting it in a replacement drive.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wish I had better news for you, but those are all your options.
