Just do the 10 second trick again to flash. Samsung Drives can't be bricked.

flash it back to the original firmware using   mtkflash w /m orig.bin   then reflash it as normal

you will have to move the orig.bin file to root of the usb drive or floppy

thanks for the reply's

tried that,

stops on

Port: ac00, Master/Slave: a0

i've tried the 10 second way, leaving it on (as it doesnt have any firmware on it at all)

still nothing, it just doesnt detect the drive at all

I guess it needs to talk to the drive firmware to start the flash but its just not there.

Any other ideas??

have u moved the orig.bin from the backup folder to the root ie were all the other files and folders are
so copy it from backup folder
you will still need to use the 10 second trick
ive had one of these before exactly the same and it worked for m8
does the drive still eject?

was it a m25?

Eject no longer works, i dont use the backup folder i prefer to use mtkflash myself, i backed it up to the root as original.bin, i've flashed quite a few drives and not had a problem before

I think it might have gone too far, maybe if it got further into the flash i might have been ok but not even the first bank completed

for the ms28 make sure to use the /sata switch when flashing.

mtkflash w /m /sata orig.bin

yes i did, i'm very careful and have flashed a fair few without issue up until this, i dont have a problem getting to the menu, the i switch off the 360, hit the xtreme option and wait for 10 before i turn it back on (ive tried different combinations) it just never detects the drive when i switch it back on

i've tried turning it on with the eject button too, the drive doesnt open but the machine switches on

no other trick that can be done?

A trick I use when all else fails is to use another Samsung PCB up until you go to flash then swap it with the 'damaged' one. Don't know why or how it works but it's gotten me out of trouble a few times!

smanaton first flash ms25 back to original firmware.Open both dvddrives and you will see the mainboards. There are 4 cables plugged into the mainboard.Gently, take those cables off(of ms25 and ms28).You'll have the motherboard on your hands.Take ms28's mobo and put ms25 mobo into the dvd drive. When it comes to select extreme primary master, simply, swap it with ms28 mobo and hit the option.Hope it works.Good luck.

BTW,if there is anything i missed ,fill in the blanks smile.gif

You don't need to swap boards to flash a bricked MS25 or MS28 drive.

If the 10second trick does not work, you can try the above mention, but it rarely helps,
and you don't need to switch all the cables, you can flash a bare board with no laser,
motor plugged in.

If still having problems, the last thing that could be wrong is the EliteMT cache RAM chip.

This chip fails very easy under power-stress, static-charge, power-glitch, and since this
what happen in the first place, I am more than sure the problem is the "EliteMT" RAM chip.

To test if this chip is causing the reading/flashing to halt, open the drive, power up the drive,
and put your finger on the chip marked "EliteMT", if it becomes very hot within 3 to 5 seconds,
then it is TOAST/DEAD/SHORTEN and that is why you can't read/write even with the 10second trick.

If you have no copy of the "drive key", then you need to remove the dead "EliteMT" chip,
and you will be able to dump the firmware with no problems.

Well i cant thank you guys enough, i finally managed to flash the drive, i did exactly as above and it did work, garyopa, some of the things you mentioned would have saved me some serious time!! it didnt seem to work without swaping the boards but i really cant see a valid reason why that helped,

Strange isn't it. It works for me so I'm glad it did for you smile.gif

So you can remove this EliteMT chip & leave it off or does it need to be replaced?
