The Old Gow Hitachi Problem....with A Twist.

I've searched the forums, and cant find anyone else that had this problem.

I have a hitachi 47d flashed with gyropa 2.3 stealth rev 2.  It will play backups just fine.  But will only play Gears of war when the hard drive is not attached.  When it is attached, it goes to the "to play this game, put it in an xbox 360"  when I take the hard drive off, it loads fine.  Very strange.  Should I try flashing with the original 2.3 stealth?  Or is there another solution?
