Hitachi Gdr-3120l Ver.: 79
« Reply #60 on: June 01, 2007, 09:14:00 AM »

Hey sorry this has probably been asked million times. Please don't chop my head. I have been searching all day and i couldn't find it. I am good with soldering and stuff but never actually had to flash a TSOP (even though I am an engineering student, oh the irony) I just don't know what programmer or software program to read and write from the TSOP. I am good at soldering so that's not an issue. I am a bit concerned about the black epoxy any tips for that? I heard using a heat gun helps but i don't have a heat gun would a hairdryer work or what else would you recommend.

I dont know about removing the TSOP, but why dont you use the firmware toolbox to flash the drive? It lets you dump the current firmware on the drive.

DONT USE A HAIRDRYER!! Its not recommended  smile.gif

I was reading online that the only way the V79 could be flashed was by removing the TSOP. The toolbox definitely works with V79?

BTW any other way to removes epoxy really don't want to by a stupid heat gun (hate them burnt myself in Design class once).

No you can't flash v79 with toolbox. The only way is to remove the tsop, read it with programmer, modify the binary file with toolbox 3.x then write it back to sst chip.

Really? I thought the toolbox was capable of flashing 78 and 79 drives. I havent used it to flash a 79, but i used it to flash a 78, and it worked fine.

78 is the last version you can use it on. The only thing it does for 79 is patch it and encrypt it.

Please help what model programmer do I use?

No, only parallel will do the trick, the USB is only there for a power source.
If you wanna pull the chip off I will program it for ya.

Can someone help me out? I am trying to figure out what Xbox 360 Elite I have. It has a Hitachi drive that much I know, but how can you tell if it's a 78 or 79 firmware? I checked the box and it's for Lot 709 and Team CSON, and manufacture date 3/7/07. I went on the Xbox Console tracker and was trying to match it up with one I have and it says 78. I didn't open up my Elite yet, because I'm trying to find the right firmware. Sorry to the mods if this is the wrong place to post.

I own the same Elite as you. Mine also is Lot 709 and Team CSON, and manufacture date 3/7/07.  My Elite had the Hitachi 78fk in it. So I extracted the Key and I bought a Samsung MS25 from Ebay and installed it into my Elite. I injected the Hitachi 78fk key into the Samsung MS25 Xtreme 5.3A firmware and spoofed as 78FK. All my Xbox 360 and Xbox 1 backups play great! All the instructions are located in this forum. Good luck!

Opening your Elite up will be the only way you can find out in you have the 78fk. Your chances are of having the 78fk are really good.

Hey man it is free, all these guys give their time in a hobby for us, so it does not take long because there should be no expectations whatsoever!!!

Now if you look carefully, they have their plate full at the moment just keeping the existing base of hacked drive functioning, new stuff is only likely to come after. Infact even current flashable hitachi should take a few weeks for iXtreme.

Now if it is urgent, and as per this thread you can send it to be flashed by removing/flashing/resoldering the chip on your drive. You could even from that point buy a nice Samsung in the BST section and use the FW extracted to transfer your key in a it and get everything already available.
ALso in the first two or three pages of this forum you will find Xecuter X79 Mod for the Hitachi 079, which is another options developping for your v79
