What additional hardware is required in addition to the passkey to allow for external future flashing?  Blaster360?  I am ordering the Passkey but would like to have this be the last time I have to open the case.  Thanks.

Any success with modified firmware on the Hitachi GDR-3120L 0079FL drive. Just bought an Elite system and this is the drive it came with. I have never modded a Hitachi drive so this is new for me. Any help would be great.

Thanks

I think the passkey does FL and FK models

I gave up in the end everytime I soldered to the chip leg it was either touching  another leg or it kept breaking off it makes it really hard when you have to solder 6 wires to the chip leg

I will try again on a new drive

Can anyone recommend a good modchip store that sells this passkey in the UK and preferably accepts Paypal?

Does anyone know if theres any progress being made on a software-solution-only for this drive ? Or has the hacking stopped since the benqdrive arrived?

I'd like to know this as well, but I'm sure that when (and if) it is hackable via software, xbox-scene will be the first to know.

I just got a Premium with the 79FL drive. I have an old RROD'd Samsung drive I would like to replace and spoof it with using the Firmware toolbox, but first it appears that I need to dump the 79FL firmware so I can get the key. I've already pre-ordered the Maximus 79 passkey which is supposed to work with the FL drive, as this seems to be the only option for obtaining the key.

I'm willing to try my hand at soldering, though the contacts do look incredibly small on the drive's circuit board. What I didn't take into account though, was the epoxy. Some pictures were posted earlier where someone used a soldering iron to get it off, and it looks like they mauled the circuit board in the process. Is there anyway to get this epoxy off with causing that kind of destruction? Has anyone tried an epoxy remover or stripper?

Such as this product: Aldon Stripper

If anyone has used something like this successfully, please let us know how it was done, and if there were any unwanted side effects.

360 Mfr date: 7-24-2007
GDR3120L Mfr date: June 2007
0079FL

Thanks

You can use a hot air gun, as seen on the modfreakz website, or grind it off CAREFULLY using a dremmel or simmilar tool.

it sounds like it may be easier to just install a mod-chip given the difficulty of the passkey soldering.

it does not look like this drive will ever be capable of being soft-modded

You'll not get a modchip installed any easier than the passkey.
