Any Other Method For 78 Drive To Be Put In Mode B Except Slax?

i guess my motherboard is a little quarky, as when i have the 78 drive plugged in, I cannot boot to a bootable cd to save my life.  is there any other way to put this drive into mode b so that i can change the key?
