Upgrade to 5.2 first and see if that fixes it

Not exactly. 'Open Tray' means it believes there is no disc. Make sure you plugged the SATA cable back into the drive.

Na I don't think upgrading it to 5.2 (a,b,c,d) will fix the reading error problem  sad.gif  unfortunately, but it doesn't hurt to try.  I see more and more posts like this everyday. ohmy.gif   Something  WEIRD is going on. ph34r.gif   I have to continuously flash my samsung ms25 it in order to make it work for at least 30 minutes..

this sucks. mad.gif

That's weird. I can't see how re-flashing improves performance. It's not like the data wears off as you use the drive. It's a set of instructions, not batteries.

I will try that tomorrow, but in the meantime, is the open tray error the same as disk unreadable?? Oh and another thing, I recently applied my own label to the disk using one of those cd stomper things since my handwriting sucks. Would this have anything todo with it? My GOW backup boots 100% and it has no label. Just a thought...

You should never apply any kind of stickers onto your discs, as if you don't position them 100% symmetric at the center then they WILL make the disc wobble when spinning, thus making it hard to read for the drive.
I can't guarantee that this is the case for you, but it's common knowledge that labels/stickers only make things worse and is not recommended at all.

If your handwriting sucks I suggest you go buy printable DVDs and print pictures on them from your PC printer (if it supports printing on media, many does though). That will have the upside of making your backups look almost like the original  smile.gif

Ok that is good information to know. I applied the sticker by hand so perhaps this is what is happening. I will try to burn another backup today when I goto work and see if that helps.

I notice that the fast read is good for some backups while the dual speed is good for others.
