I'll probably be getting a BenQ drive as well, my Xbox is in for repair (ROD).. Had a perfectly working MS25, now Microsoft is busting my balls again..  dry.gif I think I'll wait for the soft mod, don't like soldering  biggrin.gif

After extactly a week in repair, it came back today. With a BenQ drive as I expected, got one month free live gold with it and got a new faceplate (mine was broken) and didn't even ask for it! Perfect service in my case!

Doesn't look like a pattern for getting a Benq drive from the 360 Drive Database. I would like to replace my 360 with a Elite but from the looks of things the odds of getting a Hitachi are greater than the Benq.

This is an excellent find by the way. I would love to try it if I can land a Benq drive.

Keep up the good work.

from what I have seen lot 725 of the elites have 79fl drives if you dont mind using passskey. and most stores still have this lot in stock.

I haven't modded my BenQ drive yet. I do have one question, however. After all the soldering and putting a switch there, do I only set the switch to "OFF" when I am flashing the firmware? Do I have to set the switch back to "ON" when I am done flashing?

I hope I wouldn't have to open the case every time to flip the switch when I need to flash the firmware.

No. You have to remove the switch, and connected the cut traces with solder. You can't leave the switch in, as it's not connecting the same trace, but different ones.

Sorry, I am new to this. Does it mean an external switch like Blaster360 or Xeno Top Gear is no use for the BenQ because I would still have to open up the case, cut the traces and, put a switch there every time I want to flash the firmware?

Hi.
1. There isn't any easiest way to flash the benq drives? Like we flashed the samsung ms25, hitachi f78 e.t.c.
It is necesery that we put the switch & we use the winhec proramm to flash the benq drives? Is there any change to there is another more easiest way  to flash the benq  in the future?

2. The hitachi f79 is needed the passkey modchip to flash it? Without this passkey modchip on hitachi f79 there isn't way to flash the f79? And if i install the passkey modchip in the f79 then i flash that drive like the hitachi f78 with 360 firmware toolbox 4.0?

3. In the benq the traces must cut it with a switch or we can use a simple cable to connect these two spots(Look at the picture)?

Finally i want to find out if in the future it is more easy to flash these two dries(benq & hitachi f79).
A lot of thangs.

Guys please can i ask.. To solder wires to the yellow point mentioned on the above picture, i presume u must remove the green covering the track underneath, then solder onto that ?

NoJustice -

the green coating is to protect the PCB from tarnishing, you have to remove it to solder on the track - be careful not to be too harsh or you could also damage the track.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

I have a premium (manufacture date 18jul07) with a Ben q HDMI etc, after reading a good deal of the posts I have a good idea of what is needed.

I am thinking of purchasing a sammy ms25 and "adjusting" the firmware etc with the passkey/word/whatever, Do you guys think this is a good idea or should I wait for the Ben q fix?

If I keep the Ben q safe with no mods I presume I could replace this in the 3 60 if I had any other probs?

You will spot from the posts that I am a newbie - please help with info if you can.

yeah i thought that , was jsut checking wink.gif

another thing if you dont mind...

If i cut the track a little further away from where i am attaching the switch could i...

read the F/W, leave the Switch attached to both points but then blob some solder in the cut track,

therefore if i need to re-read or rewrite to the drive, jsut pickup the solder !?!??

You are asking the wrong person I think, I would repair the tracks ie. follow this tutorial vad6038_tutorial pdf.

I also doubt if there is anywhere to leave the switch inside the drive.

Be careful!

I would be repiaring the tracks by putting solder in the cut...

The only thing i'm saying is that surely u should be able to keep the switch attached
