can someone explain to me where this drive is suppose to be quieter. I have the new BenQ drive and it sounds like other drives. when you put a 360 game in, the noise it makes is comparable to burning a CD-R. The drive gets noisy only on 360 games.  Is this noise suppose to be quieter or what is suppose to be less noisy about it? thanks!

Hey all,  just something I picked up on and maybe why people are sayign its "quiet". When I put a 360 game in, I cna hear the drive spin, when I say spin, I mean when you put a 360 game in it, the drive gets louder than when you have no 360 game in it. At least that what my benq does.  You still hear the drives RPM, but its not as loud as others. So as far as I get it, the drive is still suppose to make noise with a 360 game in it, like you can still hear it etc.  I think I understand where people are seeing its less noisy. when it has a 360 game in it, its not as loud as other drives and its makes no loading noise now... tell me if thats on par with what you guys are hearing etc.

That's exactly what i've been trying to say this entire time, you CAN hear the drive, it is only comparibly quieter than the other drives. Now seriously, I think the mods are tired of hearing how quiet or not quiet the drive is. The drive is quieter than other drives but you are going to hear it when a disc is put in.

hmm interesting, i bought my 360 premo just last weekend and have 30 days to exchange...
i was going to keep it and get it modded..but perhaps it would be better to exchange it for a queiter drive, then wait for the mods to come out. or would i be able to make my current hitachi drive queit with the latest hacked firmware?

I just my new XBOX360 with the new benQ drive and yes it's quieter but man is it slower. I was playing Elder Scrolls and loading between levels is slow. I remember someone saying it's was much faster. Is it just me or other ppl finding this?

Oblivion loads SLOWER on your 360? Sounds like it's time to clear the cache, because the BenQ is NOTICEABLY faster and the game runs smoother on mine. I never said it was "much faster", I said it was "SLIGHTLY" faster as load times on Oblivion were reduced and the game stopped stuttering in outdoor environments. People on here need to learn some reading comprehension skills or just pay more attention.

I said the same damn thing in NUMEROUS threads about the BenQ. Were people that dumb to think it was SILENT, or did they just not read my posts? It's a mechanical device. It makes noise. Just not as much noise as the other drives. If your BenQ drive is still loud, then maybe you got a lemon or need to break out the level and give the 360 a truly flat surface to sit on. When the BenQ passes "the wife test" on noise versus my other 360 and 5 other 360s owned by friends, I'd say the BenQ is a big step up. Can you still hear the drive....? YES. Is it much quieter than the other drives? Hell yes.

My Hitachi is extremly loud when I'm playing Gears of War, no problems with load times, but the drive is loud and I don't think the disc needs to be spinning so much especially all the stuttering sounds it makes.

I might get a samsung because this drive and flash the latest xtreme firmware on it.

MS should really consider an update so games can cache files onto the harddrive.
