Via 6421l Sata Card!
« Reply #15 on: January 15, 2007, 11:53:00 AM »

I just picked up my card today that I ordered last week. It's the same exact card so I'll let you know if I get it working tonight. Somewhere in another post I read that there were working drivers with SP2 but not at VIA's site. Others have said to disconnect your other drives and SATA devices when you run MTKFLASH.

Try: Enable the Raid option in your BIOS settings and use unmodified vt6421 mtkflash from viaarena site.

I think i know the problem but I am not willing to format my computer lol i think it may have something to do with sp2, if you go to the site where i  bought it some guy says he had problems getting it to recognize and said it might have had something to do with sp2(service pack 2 for windows xp) OMG I AM HATING THIS SHIT RIGHT NOW!

A lot of people blame everything on SP2 when in fact most of the time, in my experience anyway, the problem ends up having NOTHING to do with SP2 at all.  I had this exact same problem:  I installed the drivers and all worked fine, but after restarting the PC my VIA 6421 wasn't being detected by anything.  I never ended up fixing the problem, however, instead I just flashed my 360 via a friends computer.  Both computers had SP2 installed, but my friend's PC was more up-to-date in terms of Windows Update.  If you don't have access to an alternative PC then I would suggest that you give Windows Update a try.  I can't garentee anything, but that is the only difference I can make out between the PC that worked and the one that didn't.  Cheers! smile.gif

What type of mobo do you have?

Try this before you reply too. Disable anything you don't need while flashing, on board sound, on board nic, secondary IDE, firewire, and any other expansion card you may no require. Also, you might want to load the fail safe settings of your mobo. Once this is done IRQ 15 should be available, since it is commonly reserved for the secondary ide. Assign IRQ 15 to the pci slot the VIA card is sitting in. When you boot up, shortly after post there is IRQ summary, you should see IRQ 15 assign to a RAID CARD or something of the sort. If so you are in good working order. You should be in windows with the card detected. Check your device manager. Oh I have have also heard that in you turn on enhance ide on the bios it help, try both.

Let me know what happens. By the way you don't necessairly need the card installed in windows, i for one have never installed it, nor have loaded drives. I just make sure port 15 is assign, that it is the irq summary and reboot and flash.

I'm not sure if the card you bought was the same as the one shown on the NCIX page you posted but I had no problems getting mine to work (6421A). I tried it in two PC's without any trouble and used the same boot disk. I'm not sure if you noticed but in Xbox Boot Maker software you need to select your SATA device in the drop down box before pressing detect.
