Ms28 Via 8237 Chipsets Using 10sec Trick?
« on: January 12, 2007, 08:57:00 PM »

I know that the VIA 6421 via chipset is the best to use but is there any other chipset out there that will work for a MS28 drive. I have a VIA 8237 chipset, Can i use this chipset to do the 10 sec trick? Im trying to avoid the VCC method.

I have this chipset and here's my mini guide, Might make a full tutorial with pictures and/or videos soon if people ask.

Setup
Update your drivers
Power cable plugged in
Video cable is unplugged
Wire from PC chassis to Xbox 360 chassis.

Reading
Make a bootable USB drive with Xtreme Bootmaker
Turn on PC
Once your in DOS type "mtkflash w /m orig.bin" don't press enter yet
Plug in Xbox 360 DVD to PC (sata cable) and turn on the Xbox 360
Wait 5 seconds and press enter
when you see "searching for drives" turn off your Xbox 360
Your chipset should appear (Via VT 8237), select the chipset
It should freeze and give error
Turn on your Xbox 360 and it should start to read the firmware.

Backup and Make Hacked firmware
Boot PC back into windows and make sure you back up.
Use firmware toolbox to save information as well.
Create a copy of the orig.bin in the Xtreme52 folder
Double click "Make Xtreme firmware.cmd" and follow the prompts
Copy x52x.bin to USB drive (where x is a,b,c or d)
Turn off PC

Flashing
Turn on PC
Once your in DOS type "mtkflash r /m x52x.bin" don't press enter yet
plug in Xbox 360 DVD to PC (sata cable) and turn on the Xbox 360
Wait 5 seconds and press enter
when you see "searching for drives" turn off your Xbox 360
Your chipset should appear (Via VT 8237), select the chipset
It should freeze and give error
Turn on your Xbox 360 and it should start to flash the firmware.
Turn off PC, Reconnect Xbox 360 drive.

If all went well you should have a newly flashed MS28 with Xtreme 5.2

Hope this helps.

Thanks alot dude this worked great, no problems, but one. The drive for some reason doesnt like it when you leave a game in the drive while the 360 is booting, you have to leave it empty then wait for it to boot to dash then insert the game (this was done using an original disc i will test on backups later)

Again thanks alot for your help! And please do write a tut for others!

Hey, first off I would like to thank you for this quick tut. I was surprised to find a tut for my chipset (VIA 8237 integrated on ASROCK motherboard), I thought I was doomed to buy a PCI via controller.

Anyway, I think reading the firmware worked for me.. except that it was a little different from this tutorial. I was wondering if anyone could confirm that I did it correctely.

QUOTE

Turn on your Xbox 360 and it should start to read the firmware.

It didn't say "searching for drives" when I tried it. It said "Please wait..." and I had to turn off the xbox REALLY quick just after it said "please wait..." and right before it said "Port: d400, Master/Slave a0".

Then it didn't ask me to select my chipset but it went straight to the freeze thingie. This could be due to the fact that I didn't use a custom MTKFLASH or that I only have 2 SATA ports on my motherbord and no PCI controller or whatever.

So it did freeze, but it didn't really give me an error.. Just the message "Port: d400, Master/Slave a0". But when I turned on the xbox it did start to read and said:

Flash Type: "SST(SST39SF020)"
and some percentage thingie running.

When it was done I did end up with a ORIG.BIN file. And when I opened it in 360 firmware toolbox it did give me a key and it did recognize the file as a firmware file for a TS-H943 MS28.

This is what I did to create this bootdisk:
  • I have a TS-H943 MS28 drive.
  • I used Xtreme bootdisk maker, to creat a bootdisk
  • I didn't select "use custom MTKFLASH, and I didn't select any of the compatibility checkboxes
  • Formatted the USB drive and rebooted the PC
  • Followed the procedure that Lice_01 gave
I'll try to use a custom MTK flash and see if I get a different key.

But for anyone reading, is there a way to check if the file I ended up with is an ok dump of my firmware. Cause I don't want to flash a hacked one back, only to find out I didn't do it right and end up with a bricked drive and a wrong key  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

it is ok up to this point. but when I turn on my xbox360 wait for 5 sec and enter and turn off i have 2 selections one is as you said vt8237 sec master (the second choice) first choice is xtreme sec master . when i selecet 2 (vt8237) and enter
it freezes and gives error "Port: e400, Master/Slave a0"
when I turn on xbox360 it says
Flash Type: "SST(SST39SF020)"
but no percentage thingie but an error message like " cannot open file " not exactly this but something like this.
should I select the first choice xtreme 1 ??? I do not want to try before asking.

you are doing it correctly.  you may be typin the wrong command..  is this the first time flashing this box? if so, what you are trying to do now is make a copy of your original fw? if you are following that tutorial from the reading section of it, instead of using "mtkflash w /m orig.bin" you would use "mtkflash r /m orig.bin"  the "r" is for read and "w" is for write.

nice simple tut lice  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)  btw.. the mtkflash commands are transversed in the reading and flashing section
