first of all it's supposed to create 4 not 5, guide is just not updated.

was.bin is your original fw.

also, slax is used, and only used, to get your drive into modeb and you use it when you want to see the drive in windows to allow flashing. so if you want to flash, do the slax thing and make sure to see your drive in win.

your drive is flashed if at the end of the promt it said flashed 100 etc.

now, if you want to restore your drive to the original firmware:
hook up your drive to your pc
use slax for modeb and boot to windows and make sure the drive is there
run a cmd promt, but instead of running flash23s.exe you run restore.bat (located in the same folder). it's an automatic batch file that will identify your drive and flash it back to the original fw for you.

good luck.

alright I got that part. I was now wondering how to back up. It seems to be doing everything correct. I can get a ss.bin file which is 2kb and then I backed up using isobuster. I see audio ts and video ts before I back up and I write the 3212312 some odd bits. I know thats not the real number. But I burned it and it wont read it. I want to know the precise way to back it up with the hitachi. Thank YOu

before you call me stupid I did the correct number and then built the image with 360builer or whatever and then burned it with clonecd. Now I dont know if it was because I didnt flash right or because I didnt copy right

You were doing good on your explanation, right up to when you only said that you can't play it.  What error are you getting, what media did you back it up onto, what game, what DVD burner did you use, and what program did you use to get the SS.  You should really try Schtrom360Xtract 3.1 or Xbox Backup Creator 2.0.

I didn't even know it was yet possible to back up your own games with the hitachi drive while in modeB. Everytime I tried the .iso buster method, it would say CD not DVD. That's why I thought everyone suggested the Samsung DVD drive. Maybe I've been wrong for a while.

Extracting Security Sector
------------------------------

* Drive first be FLASHed with our Xtreme v2.0 firmware.

* Ensure SATA cable is plugged from Hitachi drive to PC.

* Ensure XBOX video cable is pluggd into back of console.

* Power on the Xbox 360 console.

* Open the drive Tray, by pressing the EJECT button.

* Pull the power plug on xbox 360 from back of console.

* This will force the console to leave the tray in the OPEN position.

* Plug the power brick back into the Xbox 360.

* Power on Xbox 360 using the "power" button.

* Drive is now in Mode B.

* Turn on your PC and wait for Windows to boot.

* Insert original game disk into drive.

* And wait for windows to detect disk change.

* Run the included "GETSS.EXE" program from a "command prompt" like so:

  - GETSS H SS.BIN

  - Replace the "H" used in the above example
with the correct assigned "Drive Letter"!

Creating a game backup
----------------------------

* Full info above to make the "SS.BIN" file first.

* Extract the included "ISOBUILD.RAR" package.

* Insert original game disk into drive.

* And wait for windows to detect disk change.

* Run Isobuster

  - Right click on DVD and select Extract From-To

  - Click Length and enter number of LBAs as follows:

  - Xbox 1 Original Number of LBA to read 3431264 decimal

    or

  - Xbox 360 Original Number of LBA to read 3567872 decimal

  - Select User Data (2048 bytes/block)

  - Click Start Extraction

  - Enter filename as game.iso and click Save

  - Upon read error dialogue box choose fill with blank zeros
for sector and select use this selection for all errors

* Copy game.iso and ss.bin to the relevent isobuilder directory
(Depending on Xbox 360 or Xbox 1 game)

* Run build360.bat (Xbox 360 game) or build.bat (xbox 1 game)

* Ensure your burner will set the booktype of DVD+R DL to DVDRom

* Burn with CloneCd and choose the image.dvd file

You should know if your drive flashed or not, when you ran FLASH23S.BAT did you look in the cmd window or were u like gazing out the window or making a brew for your aunty. lol

I want a real guide to back up games with the hitachi because it did not seem to work well with the other guide. I flahed my v59 drive hitachi and wanted to back up a game. I did getss.exe and got a 2kb ss. Then i went to iso buster and saw my 360 drive and saw video ts and audio ts and went to extractfromto and extracted an image which then I compiled together with the ss using the build360 thingy and then burned using clone cd and it didnt work. Any ideas why and I created a new topic cause no one could answer my question in the other one. Original Topic

Don't bump in less than 24 hours, and don't create new topics after you didn't get an answer in the first one as soon as you wanted.  You do either again and you will be facing a posting suspension.

Now.....

1)  You are using a NEC burner....one of the worst for burning 360 backups.
2)  You need to use an all in one program like I said before.
