« on: January 03, 2007, 07:14:00 AM »

Hi

Im trying to flash an Hitachi 0078 using Maximus v3.0 on reading firmware it asks me. "Do you want to perform a checksum validation to check if the dump is fine"

In the posts ive read and on the youtube video.  I dont see this only "Firmware has been dumped message"

I dont know if im just being paranoid or what.  Can someone please give advice

Cheers

yes you must check the checksum, because if it isnt the same then the drive will not work correctly if you flash to the drive.

Well if you are good, maybe you could help me. I got the 0078FK in mode b using slax 2.1 I reboot, and it shows up in windows explorer. So far so good.
i run the maximus 3.0. I can see the drive and when i insert a game it will dump the firmware, then i get the same q you have: checksum validation. However when I click compare  the checksum, it doesnt compare/validate (WTF?). So well i think hmm well lets go further (cuz i didnt see it in the youtube vid).So I skip the validation and use/open the orginal.bin file I just created. I start the next routine and create the hacked.bin file. Then i start the patch routine and -oh my- another warning appears. It seems that there are many (more than normal? (at least twice so many differences as in the tutorials and video)) differences and it asks me if i would like to keep original keys on the drive!? If i press yes and i start the patch process it gives an error and my pc hangs completely. If i press no and start patching my pc hangs.
WHats happening?>
Willing to give more information if needed.

re last post...... can you say what sata chipset you are using? I had the same problem, 78 drives dont like sil chipsets, so if your using one a sil chipset you will have problems, I used a via card and it worked perfectly, so if your flashing a 78 you need to use a via sata chipset,

hope this helps

not true, you don't need a via chipset, what you need is a chipset compatible with slax 2.1 and the toolbox. there are reports saying that the toolbox freezes for sil users at some stage, that's why sil might be a problem. however my nforce4 works flawlessly on both slax and the toolbox and i've successfully flashed both a 0078FK drive and a 0059DJ drive. good luck.

Its a sil3512 Sata controller.

So i bought a promise sata controller.

Whith the drive on it, the pc wouldnt even start. so i enabled the onboard sata (sil) connected to that one, put drive in mode b with slax and rebooted. Now the drive is in modeb, while booting i swithced the drive to the new promise sata controller. Well it was recognized in windows and it was in modeb. now the checksum validates and i start the patch routine and behold, another new error:
Not all patched were resolved, Cannot continue
Now what?
