QUOTE(ruciz @ Jan 3 2007, 03:32 AM) *

5.2 don't seem to cut what its stating, least for my 2 problematic boxes. Have to revert to original firmware and see what happens then.

got 2 MS25 drives I updated to MS28 with 4.2 I think it was? Worked great for a while, then one was giving open tray errors, the other started giving dirty disc after you played it for 10 minutes and inserted a new disc, or the same disc again.

Updated both drives to 5.2B, tried both consoles and still identical problem with both as before. Best part is I also slapped a brand new laser (both take same laser module) and it didn't fix anything either.

Is it in the firmware, or is it the brand new proven working laser not working? Not sure, will try a 2nd laser and  restore original firmware to console and see if it works correctly or not. Problem is over both originals and their backups...

Anyone know how to spoof a early firmware hack to MS28 rev, or does that even have to be done?

Did you use a sodering iron to get rid of the anti stattic soder on the new laser?  There's one little spot of sodder on new lasers that you have to remove.  Can't remember the technical term, I just remember having to remove it on mine.

5.2b pwned my open tray. I have had it since the start and the rubberband mod was the only 100% fix I had found. I finally took it out to test just how much 5.2 helped with open tray.

I've been running Gears of War backup for 3 hours now and have popped it out and loaded it from the dash 3x. I'll run it about 2 more hours before I go to sleep, but I'm pretty sure my open tray errors are gone for good.

I think this has been the best release yet, my xbox1 backups are working that didn't work on 5.1, my open tray is gone, and my movies are all working again, can't get much better.   smile.gif

Great work c4e  biggrin.gif

So after reading all of these firmware bits - let me ask this rookie yet simple question.

How does using the Xtreme firmware mods - such as 5.2 effect your ability to play on Live?

Does the NME 1.2 chip really have an advantage? (I bought it, but have not been able to find anyone to install it!) nice...  So I'm thinking of doing this flash.

Any words of wisdom are greatly appreciated.

1: Memorex DVD-+RW, as well a bunch of Taiyo media
2: Optorite 1603 I230
3: Drive ms25, Console region NTSC) and manufacter date April.
4: Which firmware you tested with 5.0, 5.1, 5.2
5: Need For Speed:Underground 2 NTSC

This was a game that worked with the original version 5 firmware, I noted some of my test with it on the version 5 forum topic.

1: RiDATA DVD-R(1.46GB/30min) mini DVD-R
2: Optorite 1603 I230
3: Drive ms25
4: Firmware 5.0, 5.1 did not work. 5.2 worked. (5.0, 5.1 and 5.2 worked with a DVD+RW)
5: House Of The Dead 3 NTSC

Firmware 5.2 works much better and faster with the tested backups.

5.2 does not really effect your ability to use live AT THE MOMENT.

NME 1.2 chip does have an advantage, which is that the Xbox 360 will always read the original firmware. The disadvantage is you have to modify your ripped Xbox 360 games images to work with NME 1.2, and that you can not use Single Layer backups, As far as I know for now.

I'll leave the words of wisdom to your brain(thoughts of wisdom) or anybody else that comes along.

I currently have 5.1D installed. In order to upgrade to 5.2 should I use the 0800 enable disc? or just copy  the key bytes ($4000 -400$)  just like i did when i was upgrading from the original fw to 5.1.

Thanks

-Yes, you´ll need the 0800 enable disk.
-Also you need to copy the key from your orig.bin, use the "Make Xtreme firmware.cmd" that come with the 5.2 firmware, its the easiest way and it works perfectly, just copy your orig.bin to the directory where is the cmd file and execute it.

Greets

-I upgraded to 5.2d from 5.1d and all video DVDs that I wasn´t able to see are working again, I tried some 360 and xbox1 games and worked perfectly. Thanks !!

-I flashed a friend´s 360 from original firmware to 5.2d, and got a E66 (I specified that the drive should be reported as MS28), flashed again using enable 0800 disk now reporting drive as MS25 and it´s working like a charm

Thanks to all people that make this possible!  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

I'm going to give this a week or so to see if the "open tray" issue has been finally resolved.

thanks c4e! great work your efforts are much appreciated buddy.

So, exactly how many people do you need to say "I've had major open tray issues since x.x firmware, and 5.2 has 100% fixed it!" before you'll believe it? I havnt bothered counting, but there's quite a few of them on this thread.

Iriez you said you confirmed FEAR working on sl

at what offset did you put the ss.bin on the single layer?
I have tried FEAR but havnt gotten it to work.
Thanks

You have to use the raw image of JUST layer0. So you'll have to rip it yourself.

Well, im not sure what your issue is. All i know is that i saw some VERY bad drives made good with 5.2. Its definitly NOT the firmware. Infact, 5.2 is much much better at detecting media in general than the stock firmware. You can thank c4e for helping fix MS's problems.

Also, pre 4.x == ms25 based, anything after is ms28 based, so if you are going to use 4.x and above on ms25, you'll need to report as ms25, otherwise you should just leave it.

Unless you are having a open tray issue (boot performance), you probably have no need to upgrade.

EVERYBODY you wont believe this
I took big bumpin used simpleXISO and burned it on supercheap playo media
AND IT WORKS PERFECTLY
Not as an xbox1 game but it works as a 360 single layer disk!

I couldnt belive it worked I just extracted the game and recreated it as a xbox1 game
took out the default.xbe for xbox1

And it loaded it was a littlye slow loading but it works !!!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

ROFL Dude that's the funniest post Iv'e seen in a long time. Xbox 360's dont boot xbe's for 360 games they boot .xex files. If it's an .xbe its in Xbox 1 mode. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Funny thing about flashing my drive I had my stuff setup perfectly so I could make the new firmware and then place it in a folder and boot my flash drive.  I had a modified ver of MTKFlash.exe for my via onboard stuff and everything.  I never backed it up but I did backup my orig.bin.   My flash drive died completly and I had to redo a method for flashing my drive because i wanted this so bad.  after 2 hours of working on it I redid everything and will pickup a new flash drive today but the new 5.2c firmware is awesome boots everything i throw at it.  Thank you C4E you rock!

I updated last night and I can report that some of the media that my MS28 drive did not like boots now. I haven't tried any movie DVD's as I don't use my 360 for this and have a standalone player for the job.

I still have some games that check out okay on the xbe file but refuse to boot. Any ideas or thoughts on what to try..?

One of them is Knights of the Old Republic 2.
Backup went fine but when trying to boot the game on the 360 it says "Your game has a problem".

Play on Live "At your own Risk".
Though M$ is not doing anything as of right now that could change.
Not that I've heard of anyway.

Aight.. i flashed my box with this.. I don't have my orig box that came with my samsung drive on me, it's back at home in Georgia, and i'm currently in Vegas. So since the single layer xbox support I wanted to swap.. I droped my orig.bin, in the 5.2 folder hit the bottom, choose, D, and I think  was C... Flashed to my drive.. IT now starts acting like it's going to boot the game, then mellows out, and says "Unplayable Disc".. Any ideas?

btw:I did replace the keys with the key I have for the xbox in front of me.

What game? What media? What method of burning? Have you played this specific backup on a previous release of xtreme?

We could use a little info here.

Not sure how you could spoof it, but... 1.0-3.3 use the ms25 core FW and 4.0-5.x use the ms28 core, so if you have a ms28 you will probably have to spoof anything lower than 4.0 into thinking it is a 28.

I realize that, my MS25 original firmware is now giving Error E66... need to spoof it to MS28 to work correctly now, or dump an original MS28 firmware and inject the key into it.

Yes, the laser works 100% in an hitachi drive I hauled it from.

I am not saying it didn't fix it, it just didn't fix it for me. 4.2 was giving the error too, and its not just burnt games. originals have identical problem.

I will fiddle tonight, must be something else wrong in the drives for 2 different problems that neither an updated firmware or new laser will fix.
