« Reply #75 on: January 02, 2007, 02:20:00 PM »

1: TDK DVD+R
2: Pioneer DVR-720
3: NTSC march 2006
4: x52a
5: Scarface

Works good....loading screens load slow and dirty disc error pops up...but pressing A makes it keep loading
with better media loading might be a little faster

used Craxtion4 extracted...ran xbefix ....used Craxtion4 to create ISO

I currently have 5.1D installed. In order to upgrade to 5.2 should I use the 0800 enable disc? or just copy  the key bytes ($4000 -400$)  just like i did when i was upgrading from the original fw to 5.1.

Thanks

hey cerealkillajme  could you tell me if the memorex media your using is CMC MAG M01 in dvdinfo ?
Thanks

The Memorex DVD-R 16X discs come up as "CMC MAG. AM3" (these discs work much better than the others)

The Memorex DVD-R 8X discs come up as "ProdiscF01" (these discs suck compared to above)

This is great I have an ms25 drive and since putting 4.2 on my drive i got open tray a little. I then put 5.1 on my drive and got nothing but the open tray error. I just put this on my drive and every backup now works even the ones that gave up on me a while ago  biggrin.gif

Yup, the "bad flash" method does not require a 0800 disc

Excellent work! Any chance we will see these improvements (media stealth, xbox 1 single layer, dual speed etc.) on the Hitachi?

OK, I have a problem that this firmware will probably fix, but thanks to the FirmGuard feature I can't update!

My problem:

MS25 (not 28) drive that can read originals no problems, flashed it with 5.1A and it still reads originals ok, but it refuses to read any of my Verbatim 2.4x ('up to 6x speed') DVD+R DL discs, with the exception of the very first one I tried (a backup of Table Tennis), but now it wont even read that...

So my solution was going to be, fine, flash it to 5.1B or D (or even C) so it would spin up the +R discs slower and supposedly be able to read them.  BUT because of the firmguard feature (write protect firmware except in Mode 0800) I cant flash it, MTKFlash sees the drive and just freezes as it cant update the firmware.

Simple you say, just put in the Mode 0800 disc and your away laughing... well no, not that simple as it CANT READ THAT EITHER!  So now I am stuck with a read only firmware that cant read my backups...!

Any tips?, I have an xecuter connectivity kit and have sat there for 10mins ejecting and reinserting the mode 0800 DVD listening for the sound of it reading but it just grinds for a sec then stops as it cant recognise the disc...

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated...  Cheers guys.  (oh and big thanks for C4E for all the work he has done!)

I can now confirm a working backup of my Halo that I have wasted numerous coasters and re-writes (and posts) since v5.

I T  W A S  T H E  M E D I A

First try, same .ISO that had been failing on other media, works perfectly well on Taiyo Yuden -R 16x.  Burn tested at 8x.

Thanks all. Cheers.
memturbo -> try some different media!

lol? After all that posting with memturbo about xb1 backups not working, and tried yada yada this media that media, now you believe us? tongue.gif

-----------

I believed you.  I just had a lot of coasters with the MS28 and the media I was using.  All of the 'coasters' work on v5.2 now.  Thanks a bunch.

1: TDK -R (2x), JVC -RW (4x), TYuden -R (8x), TYuden -r (16x), Sony -RW (2x)
2: Pioneer DVR-111D (1.19)
3: MS28 (replaced Hitachi) on a 10/2005 NTSC
4: (5.0a, 5.1c) 5.2c
5: Halo & Links 2004 NTSC
Working on 5.2c, not working on 5.0 or 5.1 (TYuden -r 16x worked on 5.1c).

Many DVDs that did not work on 5.0/5.1 now work on 5.2 (noname cheap media).

We have confirmed FEAR working on SL as a raw image (just layer0 raw data extracted).

Likely it works as a file based iso because of its support for xb1.

Iriez you said you confirmed FEAR working on sl

at what offset did you put the ss.bin on the single layer?
I have tried FEAR but havnt gotten it to work.
Thanks

5.2 don't seem to cut what its stating, least for my 2 problematic boxes. Have to revert to original firmware and see what happens then.

got 2 MS25 drives I updated to MS28 with 4.2 I think it was? Worked great for a while, then one was giving open tray errors, the other started giving dirty disc after you played it for 10 minutes and inserted a new disc, or the same disc again.

Updated both drives to 5.2B, tried both consoles and still identical problem with both as before. Best part is I also slapped a brand new laser (both take same laser module) and it didn't fix anything either.

Is it in the firmware, or is it the brand new proven working laser not working? Not sure, will try a 2nd laser and  restore original firmware to console and see if it works correctly or not. Problem is over both originals and their backups...

Anyone know how to spoof a early firmware hack to MS28 rev, or does that even have to be done?

use the bad flash recovery method - you dont need to use the 0800 disc then.  Its how I flashed my MS28 in the first place with no problems whatsoever (using via PCI sata card)

Not sure how you could spoof it, but... 1.0-3.3 use the ms25 core FW and 4.0-5.x use the ms28 core, so if you have a ms28 you will probably have to spoof anything lower than 4.0 into thinking it is a 28.
