Finally I Did It!
I upgraded from v3.3 to v5.2a.
I d/led Xtreme 5.2 from the usual places.
Then I loaded up Xtreme Boot Maker v0.5.3 (RC1) and created the boot disk on a 10GB partition on my SATA drive. I have a nForce4 mobo so I used the MTKFlash Option.
I used NTSF4DOS cd to boot into dos and read the orig.bin. (which is actually my hacked v3.3 FW)
Loaded Windows and copied the 'orig.bin' file to the Xtreme52 folder and ran 'Make Xtreme firmware.cmd' and created it a 'X52A.Bin' file.
Again loaded NTSF4DOS and wrote the 'X52A.Bin' file to the 360 DVD drive
Success!
I tried to upgrading by using the e0800 disk. I just got a Pioneer 111D and it self installed with v1.23 FW. I burned the e0800.iso from the Xtreme33 folders on a Verbatim DVD+R DL using ImgBurn. And it didn't work!!! There goes 4 bucks! I also got the red ring of death twice while trying this several times! Then the drive wouldn't open and I thought it was done for. But after a few reboots, it was back to normal.
I thought I could get away with flashing v5.2a on top of v3.3 because my v3.3 FW already had the correct KEY. And sure enough, it worked!
Now I'm in the process of burning the e0800 DL DVD for v5.2 so I can run into more problems while backing up.
Last time I tried to burn the e0800.iso using ImgBurn it complained about the iso being able to fit on a single layer disk but I know it has to be on a DL so I proceeded. Then it complained about what layer it should go on. I picked the first layer, meaning layer0. Could this be the reason why my e0800 disk didn't work on v3.3???
I'm going to burn it the same way for the e8000.iso for v5.2. Wish me luck! I'll report my findings.
