I flashed from 4.2 to 5.2a the other night and everything went fine. Been running fine since but I've been getting a little bit of skipping on some games so I decided to try 5.2b. I plugged in to flash like I always do and turned on the PC booted to dos, powered on 360 and popped in enable 800 disc, waited 10-15 seconds and popped it back out. Then I ran my mtkflash and it showed no drives detected...no big deal I rebooted the 360 and did the enable 800 again. After a few times I was able to get MTKFLASH to at least recognize something was connected but when I went to select ICH5 Pri Master as I always do it now freezes on "Port: fe00, Master/Slave: a0".

I'm not sure what could be wrong Im using the same mtkflash i've used to flash 4 other times and nothing has changed in the entire rig except 5.2 firmware as far as I can tell. Is there an additional step needed to bypass firmguard in 5.2 that I'm missing? The enable 800 worked just fine when I did it from 4.2, but i tried burning another one anyway with the same results.

Any input appreciated.

No, nothing has changed. Have you tried making the mtkflash with xtreme boot maker, to include the single device hack? It may just need that.

Will give it a try. The drive still works fine, so it's not a bad flash or anything. If I can't get it going today I may go see if I can find a VIa 6421 local so I can try the 10 second method.

On a side note my saint's row backup that slowly degraded to unplayable on 4.2 works 100% on 5.2 so the laser tweaks are definately  a major imrpovement. Great job as always.

Thanks for the reply.

hi duane123, could you try to power up your 360 console and unlock the drive with enable0800 before you power up your pc and bootup?  maybe can get it to recognise your 360.  just a thought, cheers!

Sorry if I'm missing something. I don't have time to read. Flashed 2 MS28s with Xtreme 5.2b and within 5min they got dirty disc errors on all backups. Flashed to 5.0b and all is well.

No, thats very odd behavior. Opposite infact, of what everyone has reported so far. Can you give us specs please?

Is it true Pro Evolution Soccer 5 does not work with this firmware? I heard somewhere that it does not recognise back-ups or Originals.

Thanks.

hi Shin555, you don't have to go online to have the 'fall' update.  i think this update is to add HD-DVD player support and 1080 resolution plus a dashboard number change.  you can go here to download the zip file and burn the .iso file to any cd-rw and run it within your 360 console.  that is what i did.  if you want, you could also add backwards compatibility support for xbox1 games via this file and just burn the .iso file and put it into your 360 console.  of course you will need to have a 360 hd for the update.  for me now, i am just like you, having a m25 flashed with v3.3 and running xbox360 and xbox1 games with DL media.  still thinking of upgrading to v5.x.  cheers!

Yes but isn't it recommended that you upgrade to something with Firmguard first? As i don't have a clue.

Whoops i said Pro Evo 5, i meant 6.

I would definitely not install this firmware if that game does not work, it is one of my most played games too at the moment.

ILLPLEASA,
I couldn't quite figure out what your results were when you tested the disc's with 5.1D firmware.
when I plotted everything...
default.xbe    |disc contents    |layout file   |dvd media   |working(5.2)?   |working(5.0B)?   |working(5.1D)?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cousin's   |ILLPLEASA   |Online      |+RW         |Yes      |No           |?
Cousin's   |ILLPLEASA   |Online      |-R            |No        |No              |?
ILLPLEASA     |ILLPLEASA         |Online        |+RW            |Yes      |No         |?
ILLPLEASA     |ILLPLEASA         |Online        |-R                 |No      |No            |?
Cousin's   |Cousin's     |Online     |-R              |Yes      |No         |Yes

Anyway, I looked at the layout file online and the layout file seems to provide the LBA locations of where every file should be located on disc. Now if this layout file was made for a certain version, the game files could be overlapping(possibly different game file sizes somewhere on the disc) and the game is searching for files on the wrong location

Could you test the disc by fixing the LBA locations on the layout file. Just zeroing out the LBA sector would fix this. EXAMPLE

D,\,0,0
F,\default.xbe,4018176,0
D,\models,0,350514
F,\models\fonts.txd,524840,0
F,\models\hud2.txd,552,0
...

Oh...if the disc file contents are different sizes...then this layout file will not work anyway....it also provides the file size. So you gonna need to created your own with the MooGUI dumper

Here's a suggestion to the Layout guys @ layouts.xbox-scene.com:
I suggest that the layout files also provide MD5 checksums to some files(i.e. default.xbe) or possibly all files, so that we can verify that our game is compatible with the layout file on the site.

The reason for this is because some games are revised. Take GTA:San Andreas for example, there's a "Hot Coffee" version out there and there should be another version that has it removed...but the website does not distinguish which version the layout file is suppose to be for. Also there are revisions of the same game, like when a game becomes a "Platinum Hit". And there are games that may be revised for unknown reasons (maybe a game has a demo removed or replaced).

Anyway the current way the layout programs are set-up, they do not verify if the disc contents are the correct ones and this could cause DDE's if wrong versions of the game are used.

Im not really sure what needs to be better? I've yet to come across a game that doesnt work, that has not worked for someone else, or been confirmed working by us. As far as 'better dvd5 support', im not sure what you mean? The reading of media is the best its gonna get.

As far as whats brewing (which is not yet confirmed or working) ...MIGHT be region free dvd playing and old qwix style backup support.

If either happen, it will be a little while.
