After Old Firmware Flash -3.1- Dos Doesnt See Drive?
« on: January 01, 2007, 01:30:00 AM »

Does putting the hacked firmware on the drive make it so DOS cant see it? My setup is just like it was before when I flashed a long time ago. It has like 3.1 firmware on it or something like that, been wanting to update to 5 but when my DOS boots it only finds my one dvd drive that its booting DOS from. so.. any ideas? huh.gif

Read up on the flashing tutorial - some of what you say makes no sense, so it's difficult to give any sensible advice.

Ive already done a lot of reading in the past.
Ive already flashed my samsung ms-25 by using a bootup CD to get into dos. Im using my PCI sata card. Same setup as before, although now its not seeing the samsung drive.

Suggest that you use the Xtreme bootmaker, and create a new bootable USB stick rather than relying on a boot CD

Disconnect you pc CD/DVD and try again that way - it SHOULD be quite simple as the 3.x firmwares behave like a MS25 -that is, don't even need to use any 10-sec procedure.

yes, I would love to use a bootable USB although it doesnt work on my computer. Ive tried getting help here and elsewhere but no one seems to know what the problem is, and my computer doesnt have a floppy disk drive. Any other ideas? So the version 3 firmwares do something to make it not be seen in DOS?

Two things you can try
1. Do a google to see if your BIOS has an update that you can flash to it - often this fixes USB boot issues
2. Try creating a bootable stick with the hp usb utility (google it), and then create the bootmaker files to your c drive and transfer across.

I've seen a few issues with people trying to use NTFSDos CD, although another post indicated that this could be solved by having a small c partition (ie less than 10gb).... Have not tried myself but may be worth a try is all else fails.

tried booting my SD card and it worked. Just booting that is, still didnt see the drive. I tried the Xtreme bootmaker although when I opened the hacked firmware it said unknown firmware (used 5.1a) then I clicked on my pci card and detect ID - I/O and I got an error. Anyways when I booted into dos from the SD card, the rest of my IDE cables were unplugged, so what could be making it not see my drive?

Get an update bootmaker - the new release will uauto update it's definitions so that your 5.1s should be detected as valid. Either that, or your firmware is corrupt.

Try selecting different sata cards from the drop down selection box in bootmaker

I have the updated bootmaker and it did update the definitions but still gave me the error, and I only have the one pci card in my computer.

If you've followed the guide religiously
Tried seating card in different PCI slot
Tried connecting sata cable to different ports in the PCI card
Tried recteating bootdisk, selecting different selection
Tried alternate power supply options for the DVD drive
etc....

Then it could just be broke - The PCI card and/or your drive.
Not all problems do have an answer

Is it possible for my drive or PCI card to be broke? My drive doesnt have any problems playing any disks. As for my pci card, it can read my brothers hitachi drive just fine in windows.

The only one known here is that what you are currently doing, with what you have, does not work

If you rule out what you are doing as being error free, there is not much left is there....

If you want/expect more assistance than this I suggest you spend quite a while mining through all the posts - helping yourself rather than having to rely on someone reading your post who knows the answer and gives enough of a shit to post. You may find a solution out there, if so do the right thing, and post back here so that others may benefit.

I've got nothing else to offer

why not go out and get yourself a vt6421a card, and try the bad flash method?

it seems to work for a lot of people when nothing else will.
when you do the bad flash method, use xtreme boot maker to make your files and ready your usb for boot.
when you get to dos, when it lists your drives, you will be looking for one called "Xtreme Pri Master", that is the one you want to select.

for a detailed description on how to do the bad flash method, go to you tube and do a search on "flash ms28"

try that.

It's worth a try I guess

Logic says that it should not be needed, as if his drive had firmware 3.1 on it previously it should behave like a MS25 -ie an easy flash, and with the same setup it should work again.... But as already stated the fact remains that what he is currently doing does not work...

Give it a try Gordita

As a VERY last resort I would do that.. Which im getting very close too. I dont understand why this isnt working. Ive even tried an original samsung and it saw it perfectly fine no problems whatsoever. What the hell is up with this firmware. Ive also been shuffling threw TONS of posts the past month.. This is getting ridiculous.

edit: Just noticed that my pc isnt seeing the drive during the bootup. See's it just fine in windows however.
