One question, probably stupid/n00b BUT how do i tell whether i have a MS-25 or MS-28?

If you opened up your console there should be a little sticker on the DVD Drive showing whether its a 25 or 28

one question, if i want to upgrade to a new version of xtreme, say 4.2 to 5.1, all i have to do is have my orgin.bin i saved from my first flash and use xboxsam:

X360sam orig.bin xtrem51a.bin hacked.bin

orig.bin = the original firmware i read before i flashed it the first time
xtreme51a.bin = the downloaded xtreme firmware

Then flash the ms28 with the hacked.bin?
Or do i have to do something else if i want to upgrade from an existing xtreme firmware?

Thats right.
but if u have firmware 4.* already installed then follow the following instructions, for older extreme u dont need this.
After starting xbox 360 and before running mtkflash command.
eject ur 360 drive and enter enable0800 disc for 10 seconds, then proceed normally.

with this method, am i correct that no other modifications are required to make this work.

for example no additonal wire tricks

I have a connectivity kit. should the switch be in position "red" LED or "Green"

Connectivity kit is not really relevant for Samsungs

Samsung's have no 'mode b' so the red/green light does nothing at all. The device can be used to supply power to the MS28, but there have been reports of people inadvertantly plugging it in oposite to the way it was designed and frying the drive. Add to this the fact that it is fiddly unplugging and replugging it during the bad-flash process and I would say it is pretty well useless for flashing MS28's.

Gret simple guide, but what I would suggest as an improvement:

Replace the mtkflash orig (Mtkflash r /m orig.bin) and hack (X360sam orig.bin xtrem51a.bin hacked.bin) steps by:

SAMREAD XXXXXXX XXXXX (where Xs are your serial no)

and replace Mtkflash w /m hacked.bin with:

SAMHACK XXXXXXX XXXXX

I used your guide with these instead. I just think its a little easier and more user-friendly.

Thanks for the tutorial.Better to see more of these to help people.However,connectivity kit may cause a big trouble for careless users.It's easy to fry the drive.Not quite recommendable for samsung users.

flashed using this method + my 360 just freezes up. wont play orig games or back up games. Any help?

You shouldn't have brought this old thread back , but never the less .I think you've got the filename wrong of the file you're trying to flash .
