it also depends on the laser in the 360.  some read everything and others dont read shizzz

Oh I know I've been lucky with my 360 laser, I burnt a backup the other day on a noname cheap disc and DvdImage gave me an error right of the bat but I pressed continue and it burnt. Popped it in my 360, expecting to be burning another copy any minute, and it played with no flaws.
So I'm quite happy with the lasers on my 360 and NEC drives.

I can now confirm a working backup of my Halo that I have wasted numerous coasters and re-writes (and posts) since v5.

I T  W A S  T H E  M E D I A

First try, same .ISO that had been failing on other media, works perfectly well on Taiyo Yuden -R 16x.  Burn tested at 8x.

Thanks all. Cheers.
memturbo -> try some different media!

lol? After all that posting with memturbo about xb1 backups not working, and tried yada yada this media that media, now you believe us? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

One down, one to go! C'mon memturbo, you can do it!

If you are totally insistant upon only flashing it once, i would probably wait for 5.2 ...its starting testing phases and will use a new feature to ensure the most reliable booting proceedure possible. Details will come after more tests.

Iriez (or anyone else that knows the answer).

Is it possible to make an 360 playable ISO of an original Xbox game using Xbox 1 drive and any of the following (HDD Loader, DVD2Xbox or XBFTP)?

It looks like the drive that I was using to make my backups died on me and it is a real pain to hook up my 360 drive to the PC and rip the ISO.   I though I read a post a few days ago that said DVD2Xbox modified the XBE but I cant find the post.

Anyway if any of these could make a good rip that I could then turn into a playable ISO that would be excellent!!

If no one is for sure then I guess I will try a few disks using HDD Loader and then FTP the files to my PC and see what happens.  BTW is there anyway to check an ISO before burning it to see if the XBE has been modified (would save me a little time and trouble)?

Thanks in advance!

yes, it will work fine. Just dont use dvd2xbox (or if you do, be sure to use the default.xbe (backup) file to replace the patched default.xbe that dvd2xbox does its media string on.

xbefix will remove such patches if not.

Then use SimpleXiso, or moogui with layout files to build the iso, and burn with img burn

Tested all 5.1A-D firmware .. Problems going back to Orig.bin

I have a Samsung Drive. Rev A.  Build date: 12/05

I tested all of the 5.1 Firmware A-D (I successfully flashed all) ... None of them worked. They x51x.bin firmware would all lock up on either at the boot screen or while playing genuine store-bought copies of the game.

My problem is this:

I made a copy of the original firmware.  After testing all of the 5.1 A-D firmwares, I decided to flash back to the original, and sit tight for a new release ...  now even the original firmware locks up a genuine game.  Before flashing the drive, I had no problems when playing xbox 360 games ... now the original firmware is causing lockups about 10 minutes into the games ..

Has anyone had this problem before ?  Do I need to completely close up the case before testing ?  I noticed that I can see the laser through the top of the sticker on the Samsung drive ...

if you already flashed using samread and samhack with 4.2, you should have a backups folder with orig.bin and hacked.bin.  take your orig.bin and copy it to the folder with xtreme5.1, double click "make xtreme firmware" and follow the commands.  rename the output file to "hacked.bin" and replace your old hacked.bin with the new one.  boot to dos and just type samhack .....  you should be all set.
I would reccomend checking the new hacked.bin with maximus f/w toolbox to make sure your key is correct.

one question...

Just now, I wanted to connect to Live for the first time. When connecting: the message said I have to update my console first, before I can use Live. Is that safe to do?

also; if I want to use Live just for downloading demo-games, but do not actually want to play 'back up' games (I would even take the burned DVD out of the console), could I still get banned, or my console get 'damaged'?

you take all the risks just like everyone else.  it doesnt matter if you dont have a backup in the drive.  m$ could still detect, but nobody knows.

So your advise would be: don't use live; not even for downloading demos?
What can happen if I do go online and upgrade my console? Could I have trouble (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)  playing 'backup games' after upgrading? Could my console become 'a dvd player-only', or is getting banned the worst thing?

Basically nobody knows what m$ can or would do.  some say they can detect hacked f/w when you connect to live so they might be making a list and banning those consoles later.  who knows.  I highly doubt that m$ would make consoles read dvd movies only.  if you want the update, just d/l it from xbox.com and burn to a disc.
