Xtreme firmware 5.1A,5.1B,5.1C,5.1D for TS-H943 Xbox 360

Ok with previous we had a and b versions, A always reading fast and B always reading slow unless original was inserted then all backups inserted after original would read fast until console turned off. Originals unaffected

These have been revised (except for)

A will always read fast no matter what
B will always read slow no matter what
C will always read fast until a original is put in then all backups put in after the original will read slow
D will always read slow until a original is put in then all backups put in after the original will read fast

Originals will always read at full speed

So the new options are really B and C

You would want a disc to read slow if its scratched/crappy media and/or if you want your drive to be nice and quiet.

I like C cos it will always read fast and if I have a problem with disc just pop in a original first and then read slow.

Answer your question ?

I know this is a little off topic but could c4e let us know how to hexedit the firmware to specify the dvd read speed?  I thought I read somewhere on here that the slow read speed is 2-4x and it seems to me that 5x or 6x would be a better trade-off between noise and load speed.  I don't want c4e to go through the trouble of changing the firmware since not everyone will have the same idea but if I knew how to specify the different read speeds, I can experiment on my own.  I'm sure others wouldn't mind experimenting either.

Thanks for the work on the firmwares.

I have md25 and i flashed with 51a on a us system and took off my rubber band and I still got the open tray but the rubber band on work great any thank for the firmware update keep up the good work

Through extensive testing, I have found that there are a large variety of conditions that can cause a open tray error. The major three factors are Burner(and even firmware revision has a big impact), Media, and len's quality on the drive.

For the first, the pioneer 111D has been found to be very good. the 1.29 firmware revision improved burns very very well, however it creates a shorter lead-in, which can cause a optical unit to not see the leadin track if conditions (weak laser/media) are poor. You can cross flash your 111D with 8.19 111L firmware (google dangerous brothers 111L) and then upgrade to 8.26 from there. That will make your 111D into a 111L which supports longer lead-in, labelfish and dvd-ram.

Secondly, everyone knows that verbatim is the  media to go with! I have yet to have a single open tray error when using verbatims. However, plenty of people did get open tray with verbatims AND burning with a 111D. Why? Well, that brings me to the third!

The lens quality on the optical drive (ms25 or 28) can GREATLY vary. I have a ms25 that was what i considered a 'average' quality drive that booted verbatim's 100%, and gave occasional open tray errors with ritek. With 5.0, it gave many open tray errors with ritek media, and none with verbatim. 5.1 fixed 99% of the open tray errors with ritek! smile.gif

However, I came upon a *brand new* ms28, thats sitting in my room right now. Tried every fw release from 3.3-5.1 on it, and only a single backup booted out of 15. And, strangely enough, it happened to be a ritek tongue.gif

So...keep this in mind. Just because you have a ms25, or ms28 means NOTHING on a general scale of quality. Some POT's are adjusted correctly out of the factory for good power...some are not. Some len's are probably just poorly crafted. I have not yet attempted to adjust the POT levels on a 360 drive, but it may have good results for those of you out there who have massive issues no matter what burner/media you use.

Is there any stealth security on the single layer backups? I know the xbox1 single layer discs no longer need the security sector on disk, is that now hard coded into the fw? How about for Video Sector, DMI, and PFI - or are they not stealth as single layer discs?

Well, with items hard coded, security will be minimal. However, keep in mind that ss, dmi, pfi and video can still be applied the same exact way as before (yes, even with xbox1 titles) so that 'stealth' is at its finest.

I got an ms25 drive running 5.0 just fine but i see what you're talking about Iriez on all those points.  Good of you point those out!

My 111D (which is used to back up my girlfriend's Xmas presents to use on her Hitachi) is running fw1.19 and since i've updated my TS ms25 to Xtreme 5.0, those Hitachi specific discs worked and they were burnt on Ritek D0L-1 media.  I haven't come across any Open Tray errors but maybe it's cuz i use stright up Verbatims and lately using Riteks.  Even though i haven't had any problems with 5.0 i'll give 5.1 a whirl if it could eliminate any possible problems from arising.  I'll post what i come across!  Great work C4E!

I've been using 4.2b on my MS25, and has never gave me a problem. And all I use are Ritek (Memorex branded). They have never froze, or heard the laser having a hard time read them. I'm sure it helped that it was the slow speed.

I decided to update to 5.1C, well, the Ritek (memorex) discs still work great but now just load even faster, still no hiccups with the laser. However, the drive is a lot more picky now with my old XBOX 1 dvd media, I used a lot of cheap crappy media that worked fine on my xbox 1 samsung drive that the the 360 is not reading with the new firmware, BUT READ FINE with the 4.2b slow read firmware. But what it's important to me is that it reads my cheap riteks fine.

What I noticed is its really loud now, just for that I'm thinking of going to 5.1D.

I tested doom and it worked, looks really good in upconverted 720p. I dont' know too much about how I made the image.

Hi biggrin.gif Merry Xmas biggrin.gif
I'm rather new to modding the 360, have softmodded a few original xboxes but never had the guts to do the 360.
Will this firmware work on new TS drives? I bought my PAL 360 1 month ago.
Have read somewhere here that on new TS drives you have to solder something? Is this still the only solution? biggrin.gif

Thanx :

As far as I now, you don't need to solder in your drive anymore.
It was the MS28 ROM who need some soldering, but when the v4.0 came, no solder needed anymore.

Correct me if I saying something wrong smile.gif

Ahh yes this went 100% smoooooth on my ms28 (used version C)

Took my original firmware, built a hacked firmware with the included file and from then on was a simple "bad flash" method.

regeli you thinking of the vcc flashing method for ms28. The bad flash method just requires via sata chipset and thats it, no 0800 discs if you update or anything like that.
