i think this error means you flashed the drive with the wrong drive version, for example MS25 flashed to ms28, you need to make sure when you flash it, its flashed with ms25 compatability smile.gif  sleep.gif  hope this helps mate.

just a small note for more info, after version 4? of xtreme, by default they used ms28 FW, with new xtreme

use the bat file with xtreme 5.2 and make sure you select ms25! (report as ms25 / option B ) this should make it work perfect, hope i helped you.

yep tried this and it worked perfectly  Thanks alot KarlosB!

thanks for the quick reply majik. well lets say i have the ms25 and i can use other sata chipsets. how can i find out if my sata is compatible with the drive? becuz my sata controller/chipset is not even detected in xtreme bootmaker in the first place. so can i do everything i need to following the tut and just find out if it works when i get in dos or do i really need the device id and the i/o info?

open the computer and find the sata controller
then do some research on it
but i don't see a point

alright i found out that my drive is ms28 meaning i need the card as i will not trust myself to desolder the R408 resistor on the samsung drive.  now can i use a reguler length sata cable, like 12 in., or longer than that? is there really that much of importance even if the xbox 360 is grounded?

update: just bought the card

is it ok?

@gexamb I'm using long cable to make sure it doesn't touch the pc.You don't need to ground as far as you stay away from 360 when it is ON .  And that's the card it's ok

Hi, when using Xtreme bootmaker , am I supposed to be opening a .bin file?

whenever I try to insert the FW , it keeps opening up to a FW folder with a bunch of bin files in it .

If I select one of the files , it says unknown firmware.  anyone know where I went wrong?

@Tortuga2112 put your orig.bin into the fw directory and run the cmd file.Choose the corresponding bin making and you will have your bin file .Open that bin file with extreme boot maker and don't worry about the unknown firmware error.

Ok, I think I fucked up . this thing's not reading originals or anything else.

here's where I screwed up. the tutorial said to replace the key. don't ask me why , but when I put in the key,  I noticed a bunch of  F's in the window. and I think I flashed that to my drive as the key.

"Close the Firmware Toolbox 2.0 and Reopen it.This time open floppy or usb stick\samsung\xtreme.bin and paste the key.You can hit "replace the key". To make sure, close and open firmware toolbox and xtreme.bin and see if your key is there.Simply put your xtreme.bin to the root of usb stick or floppy where mtkflash is located. Reboot PC. Boot into DOS and turn your 360 on. Type:

CODE " mtkflash w /m xtreme.bin"

and hit enter.Choose your sata card again and finished"

when I flashed the drive , all seemed to go well, but when it wouldn't play the games anymore , I went back over the steps I took. I tried replacing the key again, this time I'm sure I got it right.
however, when I try to flash the drive, I get this

screenshot

http://i46.photobuck...12/IMG_0100.jpg

I select #3 and it just hangs there. the first time I did it I immediately saw it counting the progress of the flash.

can someone tell me how to correct the situation?

I tried it again and the next time it only gave me two options
1.master
2.slave

I couldn't see the #3 .xtreme master option

help...

for some reason the link to the screenshot wasn't working so just copy and paste the url in.

I forgot to ask, to get it working again will I need to re-flash the original FW and do the whole process again or can I just flash the new (proper one) FW over top of the existing one?

@SimCox I think your chipset is not compatible.Be sure you have ms25 to flash because ms28 needs via 6421 sata card to be flashed. In any case check your sata compatibility.

@Tortuga2112 Why didn't you check your key? Those F's are not your key and i hope you didn't check your orig.bin and checked your hacked.bin . Try to open your orig.bin with fw toolbox and if you still see those F's i'm afraid you really screwed up.
If you flashed with fw 4.x and over you need to unlock the fw with enable0800 disc.Burn it to a dual layer(if it's 4.x) or single layer(if it's 5.x) connect your 360's sata to pc and put the disc and let it spin for 15 sec then take it out and go on with the flashing process. You can find enable0800.iso in the older fw folder(like 4.x or 3.x) .

hey Franco,

I got it worked out. fortunately I didn't overwrite the original FW. so I went back a step and re entered the key .

at first it wouldn't flash , but I flashed the original FW back ( used the 10 second method)and then I used the new 5.2 fw and it went smoothly .

I'm now trying to flash my friend's samsung , its an ms 28 FW drive. I've dumped the original fw , but when trying to flash the new fw to the drive , I keep getting "failed to open input file " .

I've tried different timing(10 sec, 11 ,12 ,13 etc.) but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I'm going to try another floppy and see if it works.

I don't understand why it read the original fw fine but can't flash the new one. from what I've been reading , the command or file name might be typed incorrectly or something. but I did the exact same procedure for the ms 25 , and for the dumping of the fw from the ms 28.

have you had this error before? the posts that I read from guys with the same problem sometimes changed their timing (10 sec ,11 etc.)to solve it but I doubt that's going to work here.

ok, I got it working . I used another floppy. I also put the xtreme.bin file where the mtkflash was instead of in the samsung folder .

did the ten second thing and it worked perfectly. not sure if it was the floppy , i suspect it was moving the xtreme.bin out of the samsung folder, though.

thanks franco.
