I just bought a 6421 card and I have ms28 fireware, Is there anything else i need to do besides follow the tut?? Does a certain slot work better I heard people talking about the one furthest from the PC, is this true? I Also heard people taking about needing a pre-hex-editied MTKflash, is this true?

I think it doesn't matter as far as you have an empty pci slot and running XP.

Yes you have to buy this one to flash ms28.You don't need samread if you want to follow this tutorial.Nobody did that without 6421 via software(you need to desolder&solder the dvd drive if you want to try with different chipsets which has no guaranty to work)

You need nothing else apart from this tutorial+6421 .Hex editing is handled by xtreme boot maker .036

only VIA chipsets are supported for the 10 sec trick that is required to flash a ms28 no other chipset is supported

No this is only for Samsung.If you have a hitachi you can follow textbook's tutorial and there are many others as well.

This post may help others that were in my situation , where MTKflash on its own couldnt read/write to my TS-H943 MS-25 Untouched drive.

I used Intel® 82801FB Ultra ATA Storage Controllers - 2651 (SATA CHIPSET) from the drop down menu on Xtreme bootmaker 0.3.6.14 Alongside Xtreme 5.1a

my problem was i made myself a normal bootdisk in windows , copied mtkflash over and couldnt find my drive.

This program helped me loads! thankyou!

If you mean dumping the firmware of the drive ,yes you need 10 sec trick.

i`ve typed the following when booting from disc

mtkflash r/m orig.bin

as required, then it shows

1: XTREME Sec Master
Choose one drive:1
Port 7000, Master/Slave: a0

Flash Type "SST(SST39SF020)

ERR:fail to open input file!

What am i doing wrong, i`ve never done a ms25 drive before, trying to backup the original firmware, any help is thankful, cheers conners

Right thanks. Your tut seems very easy to follow and i will have a go after i order a VIA card and a Torx10 screwdriver.

BTW, i have a Gigabyte DS4 motherboard with a intel chipset - SATA is controlled by ICHR8 so i am assuming it will not work without the VIA card?

Oh and by the way - when using xtreme fw 5.1 in xtreme bootmaker it gives "you have selected an unknown firmware would you like to download a firmware definition update?" - what should i do, yes or no#? if i click no it tells me to proceed with caution.

Yes you need via card.
Bootmaker gives that error even if it's 4.2 .Don't care that.After preparing floppy or memory stick just check the hacked fw with fw toolbox 3.0 and you will see it works.

So even if it says that its fine and i should continue? because in the box where it shows the name of the firmware in bootmaker it shows something like "MD5:4u79grnfdg" etc.
