Hmm, I might have a unique situation here.

I used 4.1 based on MS28 on a MS25 drive before I ever signed up for live, which was right after the update that caused E66.  Oddly enough, I didn't get a 66 and continue using that firmware to this day.  So in order to avoid E66 in the future, should I use the MS25 validation to report that it is indeed a MS25 or will that active a 66?

Actually I have heard this before (Here) , I would assume you should have it report as a MS25, whats the worst that happens? You get a E66 and have to tell it is MS28?

looks good mate,

only problem is... I have a 78... ~sigh~ I am trying to get my hands on a older hitachi or sammy to replace my 78. i saw this program fixes the ms25's that reported as ms28's. can this also tell the sammys to report as 78's?

Why you trying to get rid of your 0078? You did know they are hackable through software now thanks to Maximus. If you want to learn about flashing your 0078 go here

http://www.xbox-scen...AZkkQIEfzBL.php

Anyhow for something more on topic.

I used this tool to make a bios and flashed 5.0a and made it report as a MS25 (even though i have never got the error)
I am getting alot of the damn OPEN TRAY errors. I am tempted to try rubberband fix. I never had open try errors on Xtreme v1.0

Oh well,

i have a 3.2 firmware for the T-S.  However, my computer crashed recently and i lost all data on my harddrive.  I no longer have my original bin.  Is there a way to flash to a new firmware without my original.bin?  Can I dump the 3.2 firmware and use KeyDriveXtractor to create xtreme 5.0?  Please help if anyone knows the answer to this!  Thanks

I haven't got my original firmware anymore, is there some kind of workaround? Is it possible to:

To take the key out of the hacked firmware put this in a downloaded original firmware, flash it with the origianal, then dump it and edit that with this tool?

Or can you just download the original firmware put your key into it and edit it with this tool, so without flashing it?

And does anyone know where you can get it? Maybe just a little hint where to get it  tongue.gif

Man, I have been out of the loop for a long time and love seeing the progress on the 360.  Now there looks like there are alot of ways to mod your DVD now.

I have been looking at all the tut out, but they all look to be out dated to me as to the progress of everything.   I know tuts cant keep up most of the time, but is there one that will let you know what kind of drive you have other then just looking at the CD tray?  (ie: MS25, MS28, or 0078)

Thinking of moding my dvd, just want to have all my bases covered before trying.

Use X360SAM 0.6 (plus the Xtreme 5.0 firmware).  Pretend your drive hasn't been flashed at all (it still has your key, after all).  This process will download your 3.2 as orig.bin, extract key and version info from it, patch these into Xtreme 5.0 and flash it back.
If your drive is an ms28, when running SAMREAD.BAT specify the version number you require (e.g. SAMREAD 1234567 62305 ms28) and you'll be sorted.

If you want your orig.bin back, it IS possible.  You basically need to run X360SAM "in reverse".  Get someone else's orig.bin (the correct one for your drive, ms25 or ms28) plus your own hacked.bin from the above process, and do:-
X360SAM HACKED.BIN ORIG.BIN MYORIG.BIN ms25
or
X360SAM HACKED.BIN ORIG.BIN MYORIG.BIN ms28

Delete (or rename) orig.bin, rename myorig.bin to orig.bin and you're done.

Not all consoles are affected by the firmware version mismatch.  To give you an example, I was using Xtreme 3.0 on my MS25 up until the update.  I updated without any E66 and then I upgraded to version 4.2.  I'm still going fine.  The theory is that MS only started storing the DVD firmware version on the console after a certain date.  This makes sense as my box is from Feb 06.

it's probably because your xbox was manufactured before may 2006... that being said, continue to use the FW based on ms28 because it has the better core and firmgard feature build into ...

So the only thing is that it copies your key into the hacked firmware?
Nothing else?

thanks for the heads up, but i was very aware of this. I was looking for an older drive for 2 reasons. 1 was the 78 hates my SATA controllers on my mobos, 2 so i can back my games up. as far as i can tell, you cant back up using the 78's yet.

not tryingto get off topic but the question was sort of on topic.

eeeew at open tray errors, sorry to hear..

OK, I assumed you didn't know. You might want to grab a PCI SATA controller to get around compatibility problems. I grabbed a VIA sata card for $25 after shipping off ebay and have done 3 MS28's since and have used bad flash recovery to do a MS25 that had firmguard so it has paid for itself many times over already.
If you want to rip games on your PC i would think a SH-D162C Samsung DVD-Drive with Kreon v.081 would be the cheapest and most effective way to go.

Sorry 'bout the "off topic" crack didn't mean anything by it really.

As for open tray errors they are really pissing me off. So far I have done 6 xboxes and I am the only one with any issues. All the MS28's I have just done work like a dream (so far) And I have done 2 Hitachi's. (not any 0078's yet) but my MS25 wont read half the time. I get this bad noise and i know its not gonna load once i hear it. Somebody needs to do a step by step tutorial on resolving this bug. I am at the point where i could try a new laser or maybe a laser tweak or possibly the rather odd sounding rubber band fix.

How do you know what version drive you have (ms25..28)  I know its samsung cause its grey with that small hole in the middle towards end of drive.. but besides that I haven't opened it up yet until I am sure its doable.  Its a new xbox I just bought.. I got it overseas but they import very big amounts at a time.  A particular version out there better not doing yet?
