*sigh*

"this release will play previously burnt (if supported) xbox 1 games...."

Also, I want to let everyone know that im very interested in documenting Open tray errors.

I upgraded this ms25 from a v1 to v5 and started getting open tray errors. After heaps of testing, I found out that it only happens when using a bin that reports as a ms25. If I flash the xtreme50A or B straight with just the key patched it boots anything I throw at it.

I only have issues with Ritek media getting open tray errors, as verbatim boot 100%, and even crappy TEON single layers were booting (xb1)

So if you start getting open tray errors when upgrading to this release, do abit of testing. Try the ms28 (stock bin) version and see if it still occurs, and play around with results. Please post them, including what firmwares you flashed, methods of patching (key or changing report as info) and media you tried. Also please include manufactored date.

drive: samsung ms25
firmware flashed: from xtreme 3.3 to 5.0a
method of patching: xtreme boot maker 3.6
media: verbatim DVD+R DL
manufactured date: january 2006
result: no open tray errors

additional notes
------------------
i noticed i had to do the bad flash recovery method when reflashing the drive. i was going to use the samremod method, but i believe jabroniekilla said something like he didn't know if samremod was gonna support xtreme 5.0 on another thread. then someone from another board said you can just reflash the same way as before, doing samread first then samhack since the old firmware will be completely overwritten. it never gave him any problems. prolly involves more steps, but i feel safer flashing it this way since i ain't comfortable with the samremod command. anyone done the command before???

also, i believe jabroniekilla said this on a thread. he said u can also reflash by renaming the new firmware to "hacked.bin" and put it into your backup folder with your orig.bin and just do samhack. neat shortcut but didn't have the will to try it.

one more thing before i bizzounce. in the readme file, it says that the enable0800.iso is included in the xtreme5.0 rar file, but i didn't see it. all i saw were .bin, make x.bin report as y, and x360sam.exe files. can i just use the one that i got when i DLed the 3.3 fw? they're all the same, rite?

commodore is tha shiznet!!

Hello All,

I am about to update with the new 5.0 firmware. I am using a ms28 drive and xtrembootmaker. Where does the serial code of the xbox go? Do i just key that in when i do the flash in dos? Or do i need to key that in somewhere in the samread and samhack?  I noticed there is a serial in the samread and hack already?

So am i reading correctly, the open tray error has been adressed? If i flash to 2.0 i get no open tray errors if I am at 4.2 i get a lot of open tray errors, has the 5.0 fixed this? I use verbatim and memorex only and burn at 2.4x. can anyone confirm or deny this being fixed, I have read both yes and no but I suppose i will just flash and see what happens, also is it better to hex edit or autoflash my dvd key?

Firmware for the 0078FK drive, perhaps?

Try looking in the Xtreme 5.0 folder - it has BIN-files, named 50b-ht78, 50b-ht47 and so on, could this be the 5.0 firmware files for the Hitachi drives?

IPB Image

no, pretty sure its just the firmware that reports the drive asa  ht78/ht47 in case you are putting a samsung into a 360 whose original drive was a hitachi.

Sorry for the question but i'm trying to learn a bit more about this...

I got a X360 NTSC_USA Samsung pre-flashed with Xtreme4.2 a month ago.

- All the NTSC or FreeRegion ISOs i burned on VerbatimDL media worked nice until today.
- I don't have/play XBOX (old one) games (original/ISO)

Is there anything interesting in this new version to me?

- No SL media / Ripper for X360 ISOs;
- No RegionFree ISOs;

Am i wrong?

Please, i'm not saying this upgrade is useless because i'm just learning what happens in the FW Flash world but i couldn't understand what can i get if i flash from 4.2 to 5.0.

Thank you for the help.
CreativeBR.

As you can see from my first post, I am trying to document open tray issues. Is this what you are experiencing? Please re-read the first post and reply if so. That is a HUGE issue if its not booting *any* verbatim's any longer for you.

Just try it, it wont hurt to try, i had open tray error also. and i fixed it by updating to 4.2a, also i would stay away from memorex media.  you can flash either way, by hex edit or the autoflash, i just use hex edit since i trust it more.

So, is there anyway to check if a xbe keeps the original signature intact?

I mean, most people used to backup their games with dvd2xbox which is know to patch the executable files it dumps. So...how to check that and undo that patching?

There is no known way to reverse the media patch that dvd2xbox applies. Any game ripped with it will most likely not boot. Unless that program has the option to reverse?

If by "new firmware" you mean one created by clicking on one of the "Make" icons, then yes.  If you mean just copy the XTREM50A.BIN file into the folder and renaming that, you'll be in trouble.

QUOTE(mayonnaise @ Dec 18 2006, 08:22 AM) *

OK, let me ask a question out of lazyness. I never burned any of my XBOX backups as I had a huge HDD in my XBOX and I always installed them straight to my HDD. Some using DVD2XBOX and sometimes using Quix(only to FTP the files). Now here is my question. Can I just FTP all of the files from a game back to my PC an then rebuild the ISO with something like gdfimage, then burn the ISO? Will this work?

Yes, however any game likely backed up with dvd2xbox will not play due to media patch on the fly. Qwix extraction does not patch, so likely those should work if rebuilt with gdfimage

QUOTE(mrjkwik @ Dec 18 2006, 08:33 AM) *

All of this is good news and all, but I have a question.  It's just a matter of me being unsure of something.

How do you make a raw backup of a 360 game to fit on single layer disc?  I currently use XBC and a SH-D162C for backups.

Or am I missing something else?  Thanks.

Work in progress....read the news post.

Flashing your drive
---------------------------

For ms28 firmware versions of drive you will need to use the Vcc method or the VIA SATA 10 sec method to read/write flash. Refer to http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=535222

Advisable to make a backup of your dvd drive firmware first.("mtkflash r /m orig.bin")

In Windows, copy orig.bin to same directory as this release (same directory as xtrem42a.bin/Xtreme42b.bin and X360SAM.exe)

Double click "Make X42a.bin" or "Make X42b.bin" to create x42a.bin (Xtreme4.2A firmware with your key from orig.bin) or x42b.bin (Xtreme4.2B firmware with your key from orig.bin). Thanks to eXOBeX for X360SAM.EXE

Copy x42a.bin or x42b.bin to boot disk
no mention of new batch commands

How much easier can it get? Put orig.bin in the folder and click whatever batch command you want to make the bin report as. Self explanitory

AWSOMENESS ! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

quick questions, it should work for ms28 drives ??
also, to upgrade from 4.2b to 5, I need to have the 0800 disc on my samsung then flash it back to original FW then flash to 5 or I can just flash it over the 4.2 ? if I understand correctly, 42 has firmguard and cant be flashed without the 0800 disc ??

thanks in advance ! once again great work guys

you use the 0800 disc (or off/on recovery method for via's) to disable firmguard. From there you can flash the new 5.0 firmware straight from 4.2 with your new key added via the batch commands that come with the release, fw toolbox, or xsam ...however you want to do it.

QUOTE(Blank @ Dec 18 2006, 09:32 AM) *

Just a quick question regarding the existing dual layer 360 backups Was this removed making it single layer only or was single layer support added for existing xbox games, assuming the emulator supports it. This is the one thing that is throwing me from this release and if someone could clarify, that'd be great. Thanks in advance!

As i clearly stated in the news post, SL 360 backups are supported via the firmware, but the protection scheme on the disc is not fully comprehended...therefore it is a work in progress and will be out when its out.

This is some awesome news!  I'll be testing this out with my personal 360 and posting some results!  I've used Qwix to backup most of my XBox1 titles so it looks like time to pull them all outta storage and re-back them up properly.  I knew I shouldn't have used Qwix all this time.   (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)   Congrats Commadore, GaryOpa, and Maximus!

=Xtreme=

There is no way qwix could have known the future years ahead of its time when it was made. Qwix is not to blame for changing their iso headers, when it worked perfectly fine for the console it was made for: xbox.
A new qwix is coming out soon that adresses these issues.

Obviously, since there are at least several games greater than 4.7GB.

Anyone have any insight into how he remove the need for security sectors on original XBox games?
