should i flash to 5.0A ASAP if i have 4.2A? will i see any differences besides the single layer support? i dont plan to burn any single layer support games or play an xbox1 games soon so can i wait until later to do the flash? or should i flash now before i get some kind of problems?

From reading through the readme, as of now I see now reason to flash to 5.0 if you don't plan on booting xbox games on single layer dvd's, or eventually some 360 games on single layer dvd's.

With the cost of dual layer dvd's regularly dropping,I may just stick with 4.2 and not bother upgrading.  Then again I'm really not worrying too much about booting original xbox games since I did sell my system and the games.

what im wondering is how often are 360 games small enough to fit on a single layer? all 6 games that i backed up are 7.05 gigabytes according to windows..

Hi there! I have a 360 patched with XFW 4.2a, samsung MS28 drive, works perfectly fine. I have a few questions here:

1) I never logged onto live but I want to log at least once to update the xbox compatibility list and add 1080p support; should I do that before or after flashing to 5.0a? Maybe it's best to update the 360 with live and THEN flash?
2) Even if it's an MS28 drive no need to use the VCC trick anymore (or the 10 secs VIA trick) to update from 4.2a to 5.0a? I mean, I just plug the X360 DVD drive into my ICH5 SATA port and flash with MTKFLASH under DOS? No need to get that VIA SATA card I was planning to buy?
3) I have my original FW backed up. Do I simply extract the key from it with hexedit and inject it into 5.0a and then flash my drive?

TIA

Hello All,

I am about to flash with the new firmware using xtreme bootmake the latest version. I have a ms28 drive.  Where do i put the xbox serial code? Do i have to program it into the samread and samhack or do i just type it in when i boot into dos?

Yeah.. i didn't understand this either... unless we missed reading something about game compression, all 360 games are 7.05gb so single layer support is pretty much only a "yipee" for xbox 1 right?  and it really does look like the only diff between 4.2 and 5.0

Nope 360 games are actually only 4-6gb's.  If you check all of your games you will see that there all the same size.  This is because of the SS or sumthing like that.

The backups currently created are raw dumps. So the whole disc is copied bit for bit regardless of what files are on it. this dumps also include blank/dummy space which is not used at all. This new feature alows backups to be only the files so space which is not used can be excluded. In many cases this means a 360 game will fit on a single layer.

Hello All,

I am about to update with the new 5.0 firmware. I am using a ms28 drive and xtrembootmaker. Where does the serial code of the xbox go? Do i just key that in when i do the flash in dos? Or do i need to key that in somewhere in the samread and samhack?

*sigh*

"this release will play previously burnt (if supported) xbox 1 games...."

Also, I want to let everyone know that im very interested in documenting Open tray errors.

I upgraded this ms25 from a v1 to v5 and started getting open tray errors. After heaps of testing, I found out that it only happens when using a bin that reports as a ms25. If I flash the xtreme50A or B straight with just the key patched it boots anything I throw at it.

I only have issues with Ritek media getting open tray errors, as verbatim boot 100%, and even crappy TEON single layers were booting (xb1)

So if you start getting open tray errors when upgrading to this release, do abit of testing. Try the ms28 (stock bin) version and see if it still occurs, and play around with results. Please post them, including what firmwares you flashed, methods of patching (key or changing report as info) and media you tried. Also please include manufactored date.

Have you tried the rubberband idea.. i was having the same problem till i used a rubberband. now even my most problematic disc boot fine. even with my 360 standing up

Nice, I do want to update my firmware. Only question I have is bout the Updating, haven't done this before.

- Where do I get en Enable0800 image, should I use the one on the earlier releases?
- Is it possible to run the Enable0800 from a single layer dvd (since it's in my 360)?
- Is it possible to do the same as on my first firmware update, as in copy the original bin, make50b.bin and copy to the drive?

Thanks in advance!

Here's a question I'm sure people will find usefull:

When upgrading from 4.2 to 5 using the VIA 10 second process will you have to flash back to the original for 360sam to created a hacked 5.0 bin with your key in it or will it be able to find the information in the same place in the bios before?

Either way I'm gonna wait a few more weeks incase there are bugs or other updates but I'm sure an answer to this will help somebody else out.
