My friend brought me his Xbox, saw that it was a 0078, simply booted with Salx 2.1 using a Via 6121L chipset, the drive was in mode b.  Used the tool and everything went fine, as expected, thanks alot for the nice app m8!

I used this card on my 78
ebay VIA-VT6421A

It worked perfectly with slax 2 and tool box 3 was playing backups in about 15 mins no problem and only cost about £10

biggrin.gif Flashed my first 078 fine with a VIA6421A card from ebay £8.00 delivered from Hong Kong!!

Used Slax V2.0

first try drive went into modeb when switching on power to drive at Slax clover-leaf
(used xcuter kit for power)
Press Eject when "Disk spinning" prompt to continue slax load and insert movie DVD into 360 drive at this point.
At Slax login prompt press Ctrl/Alt/Del and Slax ejects and reboot PC but hung in Bios
Fixed this by removing SATA cable from 360 drive before Ctrl/Alt/Del second time around and PC rebooted fine into windows and then I connected SATA cable to 360 drive and voila! drive instantly recognised in windows!!

Flashed 360 booting up my back-ups like a dream pop.gif

1st: I used: winxp ga7n400pro nforce2 sil3512 satalink controller.

I got the 0078FK in mode b using slax 2.1 I reboot, and it shows up in windows explorer. So far so good.
i run the maximus 3.0. I can see the drive and when i insert a game it will dump the firmware, then i get the same q you have: checksum validation. However when I click compare the checksum, it doesnt compare/validate (WTF?). So well i think hmm well lets go further (cuz i didnt see it in the youtube vid).So I skip the validation and use/open the orginal.bin file I just created. I start the patch routine and create the hacked.bin file. Then i start the compare differences and patch routine and -oh my- another warning appears. It seems that there are many (more than normal? (at least twice so many differences as in the tutorials and video)) differences and it asks me if i would like to keep original keys on the drive!? If i press yes and i start the patch process it gives an error and my pc hangs completely. If i press no and start patching my pc hangs.
Apperas Sil Controllers are not good for the 0078 Drive So:

i bought a promise pci sata controller and the story continues

With the drivers installed, disabled onboard sata and connected the drive to the new promise controller. the pc wouldnt even go past the sata detection and hung. So i thought well it would go to modeb while using onboard so for getting it in modeb i use the onboard and for flashing i use the promise (smart eh ;-)). There we go:

I enable the onboard sata (sil) connect the drive to that one, put drive in mode b with slax and reboot. Now the drive is in modeb, while booting i switch the drive to the new promise sata controller. It is recognized in windows and it is in modeb. Hurray! Now the checksum validates (so the FW dump is correct (as opposed to the fw dump that the SIL controller made)) and i start the patch routine and OH NO!! behold, another new error:

Not all patches were resolved, Cannot continue

What the hell? So someone got an idea?

Anyone?

Here is an e-mail that I sent to executer about the X360USB issues flashing the 00078K drives with Firmware toolbox 3.0. I kinda forgot to mention what drive I was having issues with. Woops.

I'm quite disappointed at the moment. After reading your website that stated it worked. I went ahead and purchased the X360USB from Modchips.ca. I've been trying and trying and nothing has worked thus far. After trying every possible way of getting it to work I have had no luck. I decided to go to the best resource for modding Xbox's. After reading all 36 pages of the thread (http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=571755) the only conclusion that has come up with is that it in fact does not work. Since you guys claim that it does work I would recommend you either post the way you got it to work or I would like my money back for the product. This really isn't fair for all the people who have dished the money out for it to make it work based on your claims of it working and it doesn't.

Expecting to hear from you.
Thank you.

-Patrick

Here is all they had to say.

"mmm well we have sold over 90,000 units so far and there are hundreds
of posts from users on many websites who dont have a problem. im sorry
but a really dumb email. maybe just the one you have is faulty ? so
you should contact who you bought it from. i doubt its faulty though
as this email was as dumb as your technology skills - no offence ."

Don't they sound like a bunch of nice people over there. I sent them another e-mail explaining that its an issue with the 00078K drive. Il keep you posted on the progress made with this.

Ok so i went to a friend with an intel Sata chipset. Same story :'(
It does everything correct acceptin the patch routine. Seems more people have the same problem, however theyre speaking of an error: "Not all variables were resolved, Cannot continue" While i get the "Not all patches were resolved, Cannot continue" error

anyone?

More people with the same problem:

I would jus like to thank everyone in the know for all their help throughout the forum, after several hours of reading up and searching the forums i sucessfully flashed my 0078k.

i initial tried using my laptop and a sata card, only to get as far as booting the drive in to mode b using slax 2.1(slax 2.0didntwork) and recognised in windows, but then to get a bad checksum whilst trying the raw dump, but then only to find out it was a SIL3112 and then finding out the SIL chipsets in general werent compatible with toolbox.

Thankfully i had the good sense to stop there and not end up with a brick and left my xbox disassembled in a corner of my room and wait for my flatmate to get back so i could check his desktop for an onboard sata.

And low and behold he did....twas like a gift from the gods..... and everything went perfectly, follow textbooks excellent guide it all went like clockwork.

did take the best part in total of 10hrs from the idea "i could mode my xbox360" to "i have flashed my xbox"  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

but was worth the time to read through all the forums and the posts to make sure i knew what iwas doing and to make sure i didnt end up with a £250 paper weight,i also found it quite fun, better than revision ne way lol

but thanks to everyone and soz if my little flashing story bored you but jus sooooooo happy its finally done!!!!!!!!!! and thank you all again

now jus got to learn how to flash my housemates samsung lol but that will be another story....

Also OcnewB from what you've said and ive read i would say your drive is possibly bricked as ur pc hung during the patching process, im more than probably wrong but in my experience ne disruption in the flashing process of most things will jus result in a brick. but who knows someone with more knowlegde might know of a solution u might be able to reflash the original fw and recover it, also if it is bricked i have heard that there is a chip availible that can un-brick hitachi drive(not sure if compatible with 0078 or ne other details behind it jus remember readinsomething to that effect).but ne way goodluckwith it

QUOTE(Modify_inc @ Dec 19 2006, 01:13 PM) *

Modeb is not my problem, I can get in modeb all day with my drive, it just that windows will not recongize my drive.  I tried all day yesterday from sun up to sun down trying to get my drive detected in windows but no go.  For the longest I got the yellow exclamation mark in device manager under SCSI and RAID Controllers, but since I updated the VIA drivers, using VIA 510c drivers I don't get it anymore, I don't even get the SCSI and RAID catergory anymore.  Wish I knew where it went hiding to. I uninstalled that and tried the VIA 4 in 1 driver and still can't find it in the device manager.

I'm out of options to try other than order a card, but if it's HW, then a new card won't make a difference.

i hooked up my hitachi 78k to my MSI montherboard's (VIA 8237) SATA and did the mode b stuff using salx 2.1 and windows did not detect a new DVD drive. HOWEVER, in device manager - i had a SATA drive which had the yellow excalamtion mark. All i did was right click and go to properties and update driver. Choose automtic location and widnows should automaitcally install it for you (no need to be connected to the net). From then on my 78FK drive is avaiable in windows.

I have been able to dump my original firwmare and use smart patch  to create a hacked firmware - however my PC either kills the power or hangs in windows explorer when i try to see the difference between original and hacked firmware. This could be because i have not grounded correctly... both chasis' are touching each other physically. Im going to get some croc clips today.. hope that helps..
