QUOTE(darkmaster2 @ Dec 17 2006, 12:25 PM) *

I am getting "You must a movie or game dvd on the GDR3120L and wait 20seconds"  when I try and do the raw dump.  Am I not in modeb?  I can see the drive in windows.

I am getting this same error.  I am 100% sure I am in modeB, and I am inserting an original game DVD, but the drive opens before 20 sec. is up (My tray is open when in modeB).  I pressed "load" which closes the tray for me, but it re-opens in the same time as if I manually hit eject (twice) to close the tray.  I even tried "start spin" to see if it would keep it in longer.  Once the tray closes, if I wait about 5 sec for it to start reading, and then pick RAW dump firmware, I get the save as window, but once I pick to save it says "Cannot read from Drive"

Has anyone found a workaround for this for people who's drive when in modeB has the try in the open position (Ie. people who had to press eject in the slax loadup to get past "spinning up disk...")

to get around this all you have to do is hit the eject button again as its going in and it should stay in thats how i got mine cuase i was having the same problem as you..

and i have a problem now when i dump the firmware i get a checksum failure and if i choose to ignore it and try to do the smart hacker it comes up with a error saying "Not all label were resolved, cannot continue" does anyone know what taht means is it a problem with my sata connections or something?

Something I found that may also fix the "movie dvd for twenty seconds"

Well, it's not really a fix, but it is a method of keeping your drive closed when it's in ModeB.  When your drive is closing, hit eject again.  So, if it takes two presses to close your drive, hit it a third time WHILE it's closing.  Instead of opening back up, the tray will stay closed.

Try that.

I dont have a 78 drive to test with but you could try checking and fixing the checksum before you do the smartpatch.

Yes it could be a conflict with your chipset. Try dumping again

Hmm well the connectivity kit eliminates the need to have your 360 involved.

Im debating with myself wether to update the guide explaining it with the actual X360USB and with power from the 360 or the same thing but with power from the kit.

Textbook you suggest powering on the 360 during a certain point in the process but obviously with the connectivity kit in the PC's PSU the power is immedietly on - would this effecta nything I wonder?

Of course, but I am wondering if it REQUIRED to have the power on at a certain point or not.

But the guide will be explaining the use of the X360USB sata --> USB adapter.
