The exact same thing happend to me. I did flash the 78 drive and evertyhing worked perfectly for a couple of days. Then I did get "unplayable disc" messages even when using original games.

By the way, I did convince the store where I bought the x-box that I should get a new!

Do anyone have a solution or explanation?

What Firmware did you use.?

Thx siegeengine!  Can u tell me what chipset or controller u have? Because ive tried on three different computers with via sata controllers.

Nitussi

I ran the flash on a HP t775.uk desktop which has an Intel 82915G/GV/GL/P/PL/GL chipset according to freshdiagnose.  The mobo is a ASUS PTGD1-LA or in HP speak Puffer-UL8E.

Hope some of those numbers help in some way.

I did use the differential slash patch in Toolbox 3.0. The strange thing is that I have flashed another box that still works finel Is´t a harware error unrelated to the flash?

Put in an original XBOX 360 game or a DVD movie and press eject twice to close the tray. Press eject again as the tray is closing and it wont open, problem solved  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Don't know why everyone is having such a problem getting the tray to stay closed. I simply press eject in the toolbox, put the disc in then press load. No problem and no fannying about.

I'm having problems flashing my 360.

It is a hitachi 78 drive. I got slax 2.1 n disc and a Silicon Image SATALink 3112A chipset sata pci card which I just got. I here 3112a works so I just got slax 2.1 just to make sure.

I can get the 360 in mode b just fine. When it comes to the windows xp loading screen after removing the slax disc it just kinda dosn't get passed the loading screen. So I disconnect the sata cable from the 360 and my computer loads up fine. Then I connect the 360 back again and I get a message "raid has detected a new operation" which is the 360 drive. When it comes to using the toolbox 3.0 to flash my drive I can't seem to get passed the raw dump section as it stops responding. I can't even open my dvd drive on the 360. I've tried it about 4 times and still no luck.

I need to disable raid but I can't seem to find it in bios.

SIL chips don't work with the toolbox. If you're in the UK you can pick up a VIA 6421 chipset from ShinyHardware.co.uk for £16 delivered

I also saw someone say that they had used the SIL3112 chipset to flash a 78fk so I gave it a go myself. Managed to get the drive into mode b and recognised in windows but the firmware dump was corrupted each time I tried. Gave up in the end and borrowed a computer with a NF4 chipset, worked a treat.

Will be ordering one of those cards from ShinyHardware.co.uk if any of my mates decide they want their box flashed.

To confirm I used a Silicon Image 3512 SATARaid PCI Controller running Vista, I had to unplug 360 drive on boot up to windows, Bios Just froze with it connected. Just pluged it straight in once windows had loaded and it was recognised instantly.

Good Luck

I've been tring to find one of those cards from the uk and not off ebay.
Just ordered the "Serial ATA PCI Card with 2 Serial ATA ports VIA VT6421A Chipset
VIA VT6421A chipset, 2 Highspeed SATA connector (1 Internal & 1 External) and an Ultra ATA Connector on one card, allowing you to easily make the transition between the Old and the new. NOW IN STOCK
Our Price: £11.49 "

My brothers got an ASUS p4p8x motherboard with ich5 onboard i tried slax 2.0, can get to the login screen but no mention of modeb, when i eject the tray it only takes one press to open so i dont think its in modeb.
I'll keep trying tonight, Has anyone had success with an asus mobo with ich5?

The SIL cards work with the HITACHI 0078's.

The VIA cards work with the SAMSUNG m28's.

With the hitachi 78, I had to use my onboard sata to get it in mode b, because the slax disc wouldnt work with the SIL. Then I shut the pc down and put the 78 on the SIL card and then windows seen it, and I flashed it. My onboard sata would not flash the drive through toolbox, but the SIL card did.

SIL cards have trouble getting the drive in mode B, but once you get it in mode b with another card and ypu switch back to the SIL, you are able to flash in windows.
