To find out if your chipset works, it's simple...

Just connect your 360 drive, use Slax for this toolset to get into Mode B and recognized by Windows, use this toolset to dump firmware, open the dumped firmware in this toolset and use the validate to make sure it's a good dump. If so, your chipset works.

sily question but is there a tut for slax im used to using the conectivty kit

here comes the nOOb question!

can i plugg it in usind the first conectivity kitt from executer and then use the slax cd to get it in mode B?
if i have the mode switch button up on the kit then it should work?

dont know how else to power the drive

I couldn't get the slax cd to work with my 8237, had to use cross wire.  Did you do anything special like timings etc? Is your XP install on an IDE or sata drive?

Anybody...is this workin with USB+Slax 2?

And if so, in theory it should work with regular SATA-->USB connector, no need for X360 USB right? As only advantage of X360 USB is it switches to ModeB?

the 360 usb doesn't put anything in mode B. it's the connectivity kit that does that.

OK right I just mixed those two up, but it sounds like the connectivity kit won't work for putting the 78 into ModeB with this method.  So the question is, can SLAX work via USB? Otherwise those of us who only have SATA->USB as an available method can't use this tool...or am I missing something...

Natively? I've read a bunch of the stuff talking about needing to boot with a Virtual PC, etc, etc, in order to get SLAX to recognize an Hitachi connected via SATA->USB, that's not necessary with SLAX 2?

My vt6421L card works fine with Slax (I think)

I get a drive letter in XP, I suppose that means it worked?  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

The green light doesnt flash while in modeB with the 0078k right? Cuz mine is solid green.
