Simple fix really... use a credit card or any sort of hard plastic card and push down on the left hand side of the drive, about half an inch in while it boots the game.  after the game boots, no need to leave the card in.

Fixed all of my OPEN TRAY errors.

Hitachi drive.

are you kidding me.??  lol seriously?   hahaa thats funny.   Can I ask how the hell you came to that resolve?  Like what made you think of pushing down on one side of the drive?

This might not be the fix for everyone's situation but it would be very interesting how many people this works for?    then the question is... WHY?   ( I would assume this is because the laser is misaligned??)
or is this particular OPEN TRAY "error"  just one of many different reason why you get open tray which is not an error but a reaction to why the disk is not readable (which can be because of many many reasons)

well, it sure beats trying to load a backup 5 or 6 times for it to boot.  thats how bad my OPEN TRAY problems were.  loads every time this way.  for those who have the problems but haven't done the laser calibration or rubberband fix, can't hurt, just sharing how i got my games to boot every time without an open tray error.

it doesn't necessarily matter where you push down with the card (i use the left side, but i found it works in any other position as well)

My guess is pushing down on the drive tray with a credit card gets the disc data surface closer to the laser... who knows, it works for me.
