« on: December 12, 2006, 04:53:00 PM »

I have extreme 3.0 on my 360 and I dont play live.  I am trying to wait for the 5.0 extreme update before updating my 360.  But I have heard that there is an update on some of the new games such as gears of war.  Is it safe for me to take the updates?  I have the m28 samsung drive if it matters..........any help, advice appreciated..........cookieman

There is a difference between XBOX LIVE DASHBOARD updates and updates that come on disk.

As of right now NO games have DASHBOARD updates.  (at least nothing has been said anyway)

Updates that come from XBOX LIVE are dashboard updates this updates something in the dashboard... like maybe adding a download button where there was not one before... or maybe it changes the LOOK of the dashboard or add 1080 or something to the console....

Updates that come on disk are updates the GAME needs to be able to run... The GAME is saying "hey I need to update you box in order to play"  this may be because it needs to change something in the game save area so that it works.

The problems you see from UPDATES are those from xbox live.   Gears of war update works fine.

Now in the future you should be looking out for people stating that the xbox live dashboard update is located on such and such game disk.... this WILL happen... when ?  no one knows.  So keep watch.  Until then updates that are on games are fine to install.
