Ide/sata To Usb - Yes Or No?

it probably works, but if you want a recommendation for a product the definitely works read on...

i use a vantec sata/ide to usb2.0 adapter with external 4p molex psu. this controller has a jmicron chipset and works with hitachi-lg drives, as well as sh-d162c and sh-d163a drives, quite well because i do not have to open my pc case to flash hitachi drives with an xecuter power adapter.

i bought the adapter locally at retail and discovered that it is actually a rebranded asian product, but i guess everything is these days. i purchased an adapter that looked exactly the same from ebay for a local customer who wanted to handle all future flashing himself and that product worked great too. in other words, if you google the product i mentioned and you will easily identify the generic versions of the same item on ebay.

oh, the vantec works a little better with samsung ide drives due to the nearness of the ide port and molex power on the samsung drives.

good luck!!
