Hitachi And Samsung After The Update

My friend has just asked me to flash his drive, but he has had his 360 connected to xbox live and has therefore updated when prompted.

Un like my box which has never been on live.

Will it be OK to flash the drive as he has run the online updates?

Please advise - I dont want to brick his baby!
