Xxflash Question On A Replacement Drive Hitachi 46d
« on: December 03, 2006, 09:49:00 PM »

After bricking my ms28 (i got the fw key from it so yay)

please read over my stuff and make sure i'm good so far before I actually flash-

I ordered a new dvdrom drive off the net.  I have the new FW titled 46_23s.bin and i opened w/ the 360 firmware toolbox version 2.0...pasted in the key from my old drive and clicked replace.  I then clicked the "generate encrypted file" and poof i think i'm good on the firmware part.

here is my question-

i ordered this drive off of a website...so its probably a surplus oem drive or something like that so who knows what firmware it came with.

just to see what was loaded on there i did memdump_win e 12200 8 8000 orignew.bin

I then tried to open the firmware using 360 firmware toolbox and it says the firmware is an incompat version or not valid.  That leads me to believe the firmware on the drive needs to be completely replaced rather than simply just key sectors.

Can anyone give me a more educated opinion on this?  If you agree would you kindly provide the last numbers I need to flash the drive...i am referring to--

46flash e 46_23s-e.bin -------- ----

from what I gather those last numbers specify a portion of the firmware to flash.

Also....the modified firmware i downloaded- is it complete?  or will it contain only the portions of the firmware allowing me to play homebrews, enhanced media detection, etc.... ?

I just want to make sure i'm straight on this stuff before I actually flash

Thanks ahead of time

Certainly sounds like the FW on the drive is corrupt, have you tried connecting the drive to the 360 and seeing if it ejects? If the FW is corrupt the only thing to do would be to remove the chip and reflash externally.

The FW file you have downloaded is complete.
